It's massive and extremely boring. >>25429835I would say that, the most interesting thing about it is the way it's written and the story. It was never supposed to be written, it was a big sin to write it down for the rabbis who did it. In the same way that many stories and passages in the Bible, many of the arguments are very condensed. It is done intentionally, because the book itself is meant to encourage debate over what the rabbis meant. Since it is written down oral tradition, they particularly tried to keep it as short as possible, to avoid the distortions that are proper of the nature of text as a permanent medium. The pages' geography is extremely interesting, having the main piece that is the topic of the debate in the middle and several opinions around it. It almost pictures a table where people sit down to debate. The Talmud also doesn't say anything final. That's the entire point of the book. It's just a record, but also meant to keep the discussion going, which is why the arguments are presented in their purest, most basic form. Context in the Talmud isn't only found within the book, but as it is a record of the arguments along Jewish history, the context is also to be found in history itself, the time period in which the arguments were made gives insight to the mentality of the authors. A fun fact is that, the way the Talmud is written was cited as inspirstion for the creation of hypertext, which became the main way clickable links work today.
