Is the so evil Talmud a book of explicit rules for jews or more of debates and arguments?
>>25428890It's not a humanist book.
>>25428890Only Jews can tell you, they keep the whole thing in their own language private
>>25428890debates, but also rules. you read the logic and arguments to understand the realm in which the rules inhabit. Jews care about the rules but also in what circumstances the rules do not apply, or if the rules are in fact against God, or so on. Therefore you have arguments on dental floss and taxes
>>25428915there's a translation herehttps://www.sefaria.org/texts/Talmud
Satan’s chosen people
>>25429449You don't know what Satan means because we sure as fuck didn't choose them.
>>25428890The second. Its a massive record of the most autistic, minute, irrelevant legal debates. Its an impressive cultural feat, but from the perspective of philosophy or wisdom, or literature, i find it mostly useless. Its massive, diffuse, contradictory nature allows you to do shit like: >>25428905Since Its a book that discusses almost every possible opinion under the sun, you can defend almost any opinion with sufficient passages pulled out of context.
>>25428905>racism: :)>racism jews :(
>>25429847There is no such thing as someone who isn’t a hypocrite. It’s part of the human condition. Yes, racism is good, and yes, every single jew on earth needs to be killed.
>>25429835>reads context>nothing changes
>>25428890It's just a compilation. There are 2, btw. One of them is more legalistic than the other. They have fables, fantastic stories, myth, etc. It has every opinion and debate over every single little thing related to jewish law. >>25429061This. It's massive and extremely boring. >>25429835I would say that, the most interesting thing about it is the way it's written and the story. It was never supposed to be written, it was a big sin to write it down for the rabbis who did it. In the same way that many stories and passages in the Bible, many of the arguments are very condensed. It is done intentionally, because the book itself is meant to encourage debate over what the rabbis meant. Since it is written down oral tradition, they particularly tried to keep it as short as possible, to avoid the distortions that are proper of the nature of text as a permanent medium. The pages' geography is extremely interesting, having the main piece that is the topic of the debate in the middle and several opinions around it. It almost pictures a table where people sit down to debate. The Talmud also doesn't say anything final. That's the entire point of the book. It's just a record, but also meant to keep the discussion going, which is why the arguments are presented in their purest, most basic form. Context in the Talmud isn't only found within the book, but as it is a record of the arguments along Jewish history, the context is also to be found in history itself, the time period in which the arguments were made gives insight to the mentality of the authors. A fun fact is that, the way the Talmud is written was cited as inspirstion for the creation of hypertext, which became the main way clickable links work today.
