Is annotating novels just for performative pseuds? It's not Heidegger bro.
>70s belief: computers can save people from boredomReal insightful, David
I highlighted the more interesting tidbits in my ebooks when I find them but writing in an actual physical book seems cringe as fuck to me.
>>25429455Completely fine until the second it gets posted. If is is about the thoughts in them that you want to share with other people, write a blogpost or a tweet or an article or a book, or anything else. If its not about the thoughts in them but about showing your note-taking, its by definition performative.
>>25429455annotating novels aren’t cringe unless you are…..
>>25429455Idc. I just have shit memory.
>>25429460hindsight is 2020
Most modern readers care more about scrapbooking life hacks than literacy. Especially the fem-readers.
this is what you get for taking that course with Kit Fine
>>25429455Ts pmo fr
>>25429455That looks like someone took their class notes in their book instead of a separate notebook
i don't even know what to say about this DeLilo nonsense. not that anyone cares
>>25429455I don't know, I read novels for the experience, so I don't annotate or take notes whatsoever. Lots of people seem to read them because they like analyzing themes or whatever. I guess I can see annotating being useful for that. They approach literature like a project, I approach it more like a steady diet. I don't see how annotating would be useful to me.
>>25430251a project sounds like a cooler "experience" than a diet
>>25430374It's not
>>25429455I have a theory that people (women) who annotate books like count of monte Cristo have no internal monologue and because they can’t process the information in their head they have to get it down physically
>>25430414>no internal monologueMost humans on this earth have no internal monolog.
>>25430428I'm sure you believe that, you homunculus
>>25430462I'm serious. I worked with a bunch of people who basically laughed at me after asking if my thoughts have a "narrator" and I said "yes" several of them proceeded to tell me that they don't "hear" their thoughts at all.Night shift casino workers are an odd bunch.
so what are you guys like when you are acknowledging thing?
>>25429455It keeps you in a more focused stance to be ready to write to read with a pen and underline/write in the sides/etc. if you are used to it it's pretty effortless i'll not write anything at all for some stuff but for some i'll write a bunch but i always read with a pen so that I could.
i like to underline a passage i feel was well written and when i look up a word, i write the definition in the margins. when i started reading dostoyevsky, i thought it would help to underline every name in a different color so i could keep everyone straight. i didn't though.
>>25429482writing anything is performative because it could also get discovered by people after your death
>>25429455Fucking pale fire over here.
>>25430414My Wordsworth, Hardy, Dickinson, etc. editions look like that because I like to mark where some of my favorite poems are. Chances are if someone ever saw them they'd think I'm a tiktok fag who annotates his books with inane thoughts
>>25429455In the annotations are basically lecture notes, they can be pretty valuable.
I might feel bad if I just wrote blah or blahblah in the margins of most pages
