For the sake of this, just discard the abstractions you can make from its symbolism or the like and ask yourself if you've ever lost your touch. I don't know your age or life story, but this is a story that's about the depravity of time's entropy. Have you ever returned to a hobby or a craft, or even a friendship, and realized that you just weren't the same? That it was slipping from your hands like sand? For me it was whittling. I once could sit and whittle while smoking on the porch. I loved doing it, I could conjure shapes and utilities as an idle pastime. Then I injured my elbow and my pinky finger never quite recovered. The next time I began to whittle my grip just wasn't the same, the knife slipped and I couldn't map out each carving. What was once exegesis became an exercise. I still whittle, yes, but it takes longer, the cuts less true. Is it a struggle now? No, not like the old man's, but I still miss the days when it was effortless.
