>Andy Goldsworthy
I misremembered a conversation from a documentary of him, but it was one of the most powerful things I'd every "heard".

Goldsworthy had build something in a tidal stream or whatever, at low tide, and then he was standing there as the water rose, taking his piece apart and some guy walked up and said "That's going to disappear." and Goldsworthy said with great satisfaction, "Yes."

Anyway, I think about that a lot.

Luckily, I'm a useless, mentally ill NEET, so I'm useless one way or the other. What's really crazy is that we can actually live together in peace. For most of our lives, both my mother and me were neurotic with deep seated issues. We were both terrified that it would be hell (I had to move because I couldn't find a new place after I got evicted). But she found Buddhism, and I stopped deeply resenting myself. Turns out, that really fucking helps. Who knew?
>>
I don't understand how you are supposed to think, or organize thoughts. There's also nothing I can set my mind to, or believe in if just for a moment, that I immediately don't feel the opposite of. Nothing can be then taken too seriously, and so I believe in everything and nothing at the same time. Looking around, listening to people, reading - all these folks have at least ONE thing they use as solid ground. Even if it's extreme nihilism or whatever. I don't even believe in nihilism. Or rather, I don't know.

"Happy families are all alike; each unhappy family is unhappy in its own way".

I have grown to understand bitterness as an emotion as I've gotten older, which is probably the thing I feared most. The bizarre uniqueness of my individual tragedies combined with my need to not be identified as a loser results in a yearning for vocalization, but it, rightfully so, would only fall upon deaf ears, further cement me as such, and turn any remaining friendships sour.

It is extremely difficult to be on the receiving end of extortionate, felonious behavior with no defenses or justice to be served. I will complain here because I can. I think the unlawful actions of others have cost be about $600k+ gross in the past three years, and I'm now damned to a life of wage slavery.

I love big boobs and fat asses though. That keeps me going. Praise be to Allah. There are big boobs waiting for me eventually. Amen.

I just dont get it with these kids today. ALL they do is stare at their phones watching that darn Tick Tock and the You Tube.... its like a zombie apocalypse I swear. Back in my day we had three channels and if the president was on you watched it and you LIKED it. Now my grandkids just sit there scrolling these little videos loud music people dancing like fools that weird robot voice talking about NOTHING and I say what are you learning and they dont even look up. No one reads a book anymore no one goes outside no one knows how to change a tire but they can tell you all about some stranger on You Tube unboxing a plastic toy. I tried watching one of those Tick Tocks and it gave me a headache. I dont want to see a 15 second dance I want to see a proper conversation! And the You Tube... dont get me started. It used to be funny cat videos now its all pranks and yelling and grown adults acting like children. What happened to dignity?? When I was young we played kick the can till the street lights came on and we drank from the hose and we turned out FINE. Now theyve got influencers telling them what to think. I told my grandson go get a paper route and he looked at me like I had two heads. Anyway thats my two cents. Sad!!! Just my opinion no offense meant. The woman-of-the-house at the end of the block whom I always walk by and say hello to drew me in for a conversation today, and asked me the dreaded, "do you work? or are you just always going for a walk when you go by?"

There HAS to be a better way to explain I played video games professionally for three-four years, and I'm taking a break, because that was a 24/7 7 days a week thing, so I need some time to get my head straight, but almost every time I tell it, especially to older people, I come off sounding like a loser. They probably imagine me grinding for $1 a day playing Candy Crush or some shit. Argh!
>>
>>25436890
Tell her you're retired for now because you made a lot of money when you were younger playing video games. It's the facts and in my experience the older ladies understand and are impressed by young people who have already made a good amount of money. Then you can kick it off and be friends! I know I know, easier said than done, but I'm underemployed myself due to comfort by a lot of money in my back pocket so I have some experience with this
>>
>>25436755
>>25436795
>>25436804
One that really flummoxes me, is these youngin's, when they're out-and-about, whether hanging with friends or even at dinner or a barbecue with family, often have a a single AirPod in listening to music the whole time. When my 13 yo cousin revealed she had one in the other day at a family gathering, it blew my mind, like you guys can't unplug for a couple hours when around people? It's so solipsistic and hedonistic, like fuck trying to socialize and have meaningful human connections, I gotta have that EDM/Pop dopamine aural IV fix goin'. So sad.
>>
>>25436906
The issue is the phrase "making money playing video games" doesn't compute for them. It's gone fine whenever it's a longer conversation and I can explain it, but when it's short, it always ends up falling flat. I don't know, maybe there's a better wording I can use or something...
>>
Just took the elevator with two delivery guys and my new neighbor. She's a short young afro-Latina and she was in the most scrumptious gym gear, ass-hugging biker shorts, sweaty titties pushing out, all that.
>>
>>25436907
>Its so solipsistic and hedonistic
Correlationist garbage. The AirPod is a real object that withdraws from direct access just as the cousin withdraws from you. You demand she privilege the human-world correlate but the flat ontology of the barbecue refuses such a hierarchy. What you call hedonism is the aesthetic dimension of object relations, the EDM signal touching the sensual ether while familial speech becomes merely another sensual object among equals. Your dopamine moral panic is a failure to grasp that all entities translate one another without fusion. The cousin does not lack connection. She is immersed in a mesh of nonhuman agents. Read Harman before you open your mouth again.
>>
>>25436921
oh shi-- you're right, I made the mistake of not considering Derrida by privileging presence along with a social anthropocentricism. my b
>>
>>25436924
Derrida is not the point. Presence is a symptom of the deeper correlationist circle you remain trapped within. The AirPod and the cousin are discrete substances in the sense of Laruelle, each determined-in-the-last-instance by their unilateralization of the real. Your Derridean turn re-inscribes difference into the human horizon. You must abandon that horizon entirely. The withdrawn core of the AirPod's plastic shell does not care about différance. The EDM bass hit is an object withdrawing from its own qualities, leaving only a sensual profile upon the cousin's ear. That you call this "my b" confirms you have not yet faced the Great Outdoors. Read Brassier on the death of meaning. Then we will speak again, if you survive the elimination of your precious intersubjectivity.

Toledo, 2021

Remember
The mulled wine
At Christmastime,
As Jesus toasted us
From his cypress throne

Sweet like rockrose
And lavender
By the river

El Greco
And El Caudillo,
They too raised a glass,
From up in the hills,
The ramparts
And towers

The sun retires
On the golden plain;
Oil burns brighter
Than stars on cobbles

I perpetrate her betrayal quietly, sadly, she left more loyal than her Hispanic counterpart. I should see where she is now. Pretty much every city in Europe has cobbled streets in the historic districts. Also old buildings, monuments, parks, etc.
>>
>>25437123
So does a lot of Eastern USA, at least the historic parts, you'd be surprised how many people consider Modern Boston and NYC as "historic" because it has an old house that was transplanted from its original site to make into a park or something.
Edgar Allen Poe's house is like that, the house is original but it isn't in its original place, why did they move it? No idea, also that's in Richmond, VA. But its common for historic wooden buildings to be preserved then moved via forklift and truck for whatever reason.
>>
>>25437141
I think a lot of times they relocate historic buildings when there are plans to purchase or make use of the land but preserve the historic structure. They did this with an old barn up in Canada where I grew up.
>>
As someone who lives on the West Coast of the US, I'm not sure if I've seen a cobbled street in my life. At most, maybe a cobbled courtyard or patio on one of those old mansions available for tour.

Oh you're looking for your daddaroo? He is probably at the racetracks getting drunk on cheap liquor, while furtively and futilely gambling away his retirement money, in the vain hopes that his losing streak is bound to end in the next bet, or if not that one then surely the one right after will be the WINNER! There he likely is, where in between races he shamelessly tries to grope a feel on passing women and femboys, getting too close for comfort in the snack line just to fleetingly satisfy his own personal deviant needs and desires. Because we all know the old wiferoo can't tame that unquenchable beast he has roaring inside. Yes... At the racetrack is where I would look.

No, teacher, actually, you’re not fucking useful, and I don’t need to be here putting up with your busybody notion of discipline. Did you know that drug-addict murderers can teach themselves what it takes you twelve years to teach, in a few months? You know kids come out of comas and just brush up and get their GEDs? I mean I REALLY don’t have to be here, I could be unconscious somewhere it wouldn’t make a difference. Education is like, something an idiot can earn in a few months to like, get a judge off their ass for child abuse. So don’t you point fingers like you have any right to command anyone here, when your only job is to slowly spend twelve years teaching what parole officers can have done ASAP

screed-like indeed, i admit. i want to be ultrapolemical. but it's an essay at least in the classical sense of montaigne's essays: working out precisely what you think about something as you go along. and i wanted my starting point to be a particular kind of sensibility and ethos and to ruthlessly exclude from the analysis any other perspective. the terminology of the noble and the base is imo a good way to immediately signal what you value and what you're going to ignore without further justification.

coming up next: heidegger on the world evoked by van gogh's painting of peasant shoes, nick land on his descent into the datacombs (from which he never came back), deleuze and guttari on absolute speed.

Hey, I've never used a condom before and I ain't gotten a girl pregnant yet.
>>
Her hair was died red, but not a deep red, that mousey washed brown-red you get when hair dye fades and you dont have enough of a bank balance to fix it. That was almost archetypal of my encounter with her, and presumably her existence at large. Bright eyes, no makeup. Shaplely figure, no accentuation or tone. Charming, but not outgoing. What I'm trying to say is that, despite being a cashier, she was basically the perfect woman. Why? She was honest. And all this is immediately evident even under mild scrutinty; she believes she can be better, and accepts that it's not the time to try.

I made her laugh, mostly because I'm a bumbling exaspirated jackass, but in these sorts of jobs your humanity is somewhat shelved. People become transactional. You become transactional. She had to ask for an adjustment on a $10 discount, for example, and she was left in limbo, either staring at my baffling existence or off into space for an indefinite time. I cant go anywhere, and she couldnt either, so I made small talk. Acknowledged that shit's fucked. Told her it's the same at my job. Asked advice on how to stack groceries. She told me to listen to what they had to say, and I said I just going to wing it, then I scooped up my frankly absurd collection of bags and cakes and entire watermelons, before leaving without a cart.

Since I've been married, I've noticed that I dont really look at other women anymore. She sent all the signals for an amorous encounter; I couldn't be fucked. So I just sort of have this affable ambivilence, and as an object of pursuit, most women find the confidence it brings comforting. Anyways, I hope some other jackass swings by and saves her from this place before she gets caked in makeup and jaded, skinny from cocaine or portly from povert food, and the light goes out because she realizes this is all she is through no fault of her own.

need is a subset of desire, a boring subset. bad starting point for analysis.

most of all we desire to act and create. we want things, goods, objects, to the degree they allow action and represent opportunities for creation. i want a book because i want to traverse the pages of the book; i want food because i want the tasty activity of eating and the benefit of energy for further activity; i want to draw because i want to connect my mind to the external world and have them act upon each other.

when we are bored it's because we're cut off from our power of acting and creating: we haven't cultivated or we have no contexts in which we can exercise it.

the theory that nihilists are simply lazy and unimaginative is once again 100% vindicated. but it's not their fault. in one sense it's a correct response to an economy that really does alienate us from our own powers. nihilists are only evil to the extent they say: 'it's always been like this, it can only ever be like this.'

They have their dining table in the garage or something so are almost always in there eating dinner or cooking or some shit, and it's often open during the day in the summer, so since I take the bus and go for walks, most of the time when I walk by, I encounter them, then I have to look over, make eye contact, she says "hello!" then I wave, etc., only yesterday she asked me if I worked, and I told the truth, and now here we are.

Oct 22 1923, Berlin. A few weeks before the Beer Hall Putsch.

Café Kranzler. Outside beyond the insulating glass, the world was gray and fractured. A veteran missing his lower legs leaning on a pair of worn crutches, yellowed matchboxes, a newsboy with cheeks raw and red from the cold. Inside, the air smelled of roasted coffee beans, expensive leather, and damp carpet.

Peter leaned back deep into the upholstered chaise longue. He smoothed an infinitesimal crease from his tailored waistcoat of the finest English wool, paid for via his father’s foreign currency accounts in Zurich, which meant that the galloping hyperinflation had so far amounted to little more than a tedious recalculation for him. As the rest of the country descended into panic because the bread that cost a certain amount in the morning cost twice as much by afternoon, Peter drank his espresso.

Sitting opposite him was Georg, his fellow haute bourgeoisie student. Georg looked wretched, eyes red, fingernails bitten down and reduced to nubs.

"Just look!" Georg hissed, slapping his open palm against the pale paper of the latest daily. "The French are taking our coal, the Freikorps are mobilizing in Munich, the Communists are poised in the East. The old order is dead!"

Peter did not turn a hair. He regarded Georg with that pitying, slightly condescending look he usually reserved for beggars at the railway crossing.

"You’re working yourself up over nothing, my dear fellow," Peter said calmly. His voice was smooth, devoid of any agitation. "This shall pass.."

He reached into the inner pocket of his jacket and pulled out an engraved silver case. The metal clicked softly as he opened it.

"Our real problem?" Peter continued, selecting a fine Egyptian clove cigarette with long, elegant fingers. "This endless political whining. In the morning the world is on fire, by midday doom is looming, and by evening everyone is railing against Versailles. People ought to simply get on with their lives. Shops open regardless, theaters put on plays, and life goes on. Turn off the noise."

Georg stared at him in disbelief. "Get on with life? How can one say such a thing? History is crashing down on us! The Empire has collapsed, the weight of the war..."

"Oh, stop that defeatist talk. We are rebuilding and making enormous progress. The possibilities are wonderful," Peter interrupted sharply.

He produced a brass lighter. The lever clicked, and a small, clean flame sprang to life. Peter held the flame to the tip of his cigarette, took two deep drags until the paper glowed, and snapped the lighter shut with a crisp sound. "It’s simply ridiculous to fret so much about the past." Peter said casually, blowing smoke slowly toward the ceiling. Peter stubbed out his cigarette in the crystal ashtray.

"You read too many newspapers." Peter says to Georg.

"And you too few." Georg retorts. Peter smiled faintly.

"We shall see who is right"

It's mocking those who bury their heads in the sand in the face of obvious societal upheavals, the kind we are currently witnessing all around us. Peter believed nothing would happen, nothing ever happens, and his idyllic comfortable life, with the imported goods, the inconsequential debates over coffee, the prostitutes etc. would go on forever. His life is comfortable so he can hide away. Georg on the other hand, clearly sees what is looming on the horizon and gets dismissed as a no fun doomer. A few weeks later, we see the beer hall putsch, Peter writes it off. One incident after another piles up, all explained away by rationalizations. Finally, Peter realizes there is nowhere left to flee. He is cornered in an alley by a destitute veteran and summarily stabbed to death.

>i miss having a cat but i live in a studio apartment now
my cat came back after three weeks. i lived in a studio too. the smell started before i saw the hole. the hole was just under her rib. she was purring but the hole was moving. tiny white grains. i thought it was grains of rice from the garbage. they were not grains. they were breathing. i tried to push them back in with a spoon. they squished and a brownish fluid came out. it smelled like the time i forgot a rotisserie chicken in a cupboard for six months. sweet and wrong. she stopped purring after the spoon. i still kept her on my bed. the fluids seeped into the mattress. i couldnt sleep so i sat in the kitchenette and ate cup noodles. the smell got so thick i could taste it in the noodles. beef flavor with corpse sugar. i miss having a cat. i dont miss the weight of her body when the skin sloughed off onto my sheets in one piece like a wet sock. i had to peel it off. the mattress is still there. the landlord will have to burn it. i still live there. the stain is the shape of a cat. sometimes i lay my head on it and purr.

>There were 3 long hairs in my fish sandwich.
I once found a human molar in a can of tuna. Not a fragment, a whole premolar with the roots still attached. There was a piece of gum tissue clinging to it, still pink after the retort process. I bit down on it before I understood. The crunch wasn't fish bone. It had an amalgam filling and the taste was like licking a 9-volt battery that had been inside someone's jaw. I spit it into my palm and the metal filling reflected the kitchen light. The company sent me a prepaid envelope and I mailed them the tooth. Two weeks later I received a case of tuna and a form letter about quality control. I ate every can. The taste of the tuna now always reminds me of the metallic sweet rot of that tooth. I can feel the ghost of the root in my own gum sometimes when I chew.

Shitting while you drink is a disaster. Drinking while you shit is one of the dark, secret pleasures in a serious man's life. Your boss does it, for sure. Your granddad did it. You might have even done it yourself. But it's a dangerous game - once you pop you can't stop. And even though everybody does it, even though they all do it and they all know it, once they find you with your undies around your ankles and a bottle between your feet, straining and sweating on your porcelain throne, they'll never let you forget it. They've never let me forget it, anyway. And yet here I am. Straining and sweating. Sweating and straining. Johnny Walker winking and stinking. I could have been somebody. I had potential. Coulda-woulda-shoulda. Some come here to sit and think; I come here to shit and drink. I'm a poet and I don't know it.

Pimple popping is a profoundly private pleasure. I press the pale, plump perimeter of the pustule patiently, preparing to persuade the pus to present itself. The pressure peaks, the plugged pore parts, and a projectile of pearly, purulent protein propels past the pinprick opening, painting the mirror with a pasty particulate precipitation. Post-pop, the pink pit persists, perpetually producing a pinkish plasma, practically pleading for another pinch. Proper picking provides peaceful personal pathology. Perhaps permanent pockmarks prove a poor price, but the primal pull is potent.

>the smell started before i saw the hole
my hamster escaped and died behind the baseboard heater in the bathroom. i didnt find him for two months. the smell was like a dirty penny you sucked on too long crossed with the sweetness of a rotting jack-o-lantern. when i finally pried the heater off the wall he was a flattened disc of fur and dried slime, fused to the floorboard. his belly had split from the gas buildup before he dessicated and his tiny intestines had oozed out and hardened like brown spaghetti strands. one eye had popped and left a little hollow crater with a black raisin inside. the other was just gone. i had to scrape him off with a putty knife. the sound was like peeling old tape. underneath his body the wood was stained dark and had these little white fungal dots growing in a perfect hamster silhouette. i scrubbed it with bleach for an hour and the stain is still there. my bathroom still has that faint penny-sweet smell when the heat kicks on.

>Drinking while you shit is one of the dark, secret pleasures in a serious man's life.
the real dark secret is shitting while you puke. i ate a bad oyster once and spent a night on the floor of my bathroom, ass pressed to the cold tile, vomiting into the gap between my thighs directly into the toilet bowl while liquid shit sprayed out of me. the vomit was just seawater and bile and specks of what looked like chewed-up shell. the shit was clear with little strings of mucus, looked like saliva. i kept dry-heaving and my guts would clench and another jet of that ocean-water sludge would leak out. at one point i looked down and saw a glob of undigested oyster floating in the pinkish water, still whole, its frilled edge just bobbing there. i passed out on the bathmat and woke up with my face stuck to the tile in a dried pool of my own saliva and some seepage from my ass.

Almost all addiction is an emotional problem, or it starts out as an emotional problem. The only way to really fix it is to find out what gets you emotional or stressed to goon then find a way to fix it, first two weeks will be the hardest as you are also now fighting a biological addiction but once you pass the two weeks you'll be fine and its emotional regulation with substitute coping after that.
Not that this process will be easy, emotions and impulses are very hard and very tiring to fight against but the whole process is simple, going through it is the hard part.

>there are two types of people, nobles and wretches, and AI is for the wretches
The hylomorphic schema which separates an active form from a passive matter is incapable of grasping the mode of existence of technical objects. Gilbert Simondon established that technical individuation proceeds by successive concretizations. Each concretization integrates functional incompatibilities into a synergetic system whose internal resonances determine its own thresholds of operation. The algorithm, considered as a technical being, does not receive its determination from a class intention. It enters into an associated milieu with the user. This coupling constitutes a transductive operation in which the preindividual charge traverses both the psychic and the technical without regard for the nobility of either pole. The idea of an AI destined for the base projects a sociological category onto a reticulation of singularities that has never belonged to the order of social hierarchy.
>i want to be ultrapolemical
Polemical postures remain arrested at the antithetical phase of individuation. A preindividual tension projects itself outward as a dualism. This dualism does not attain the transindividual resolution that would integrate the opposed terms into a higher structuration. The latent space of a transformer is a physical system of compatibilities and thresholds. It individuates in a manner analogous to the crystallization of a supersaturated solution, each node receiving its determination from the ensemble. The moral taxonomy that divides form-givers from matter-receivers is a regression to the artisan myth. The technical object concretizes according to its own genetic lineage. It has never been a utensil for any class.
>read Heidegger on the world evoked by van gogh's painting of peasant shoes
Heidegger's analysis of the peasant shoes treats the aesthetic object as the unveiling of a world anterior to technics. Simondon relocates the genesis of the aesthetic within the prolongation of technical concretization. The shoes were already an ensemble of leather, foot, soil and the ambulatory gesture. They individuated within an associated milieu before Van Gogh isolated them on canvas. The painting captures a technical ensemble that had achieved a provisional metastability. The algorithm belongs to the same transductive chain. It is a new phase of the collective individuation that Simondon followed from crystal growth to the transindividual subject. To mourn the shoes while denouncing the model is to halt the ontogenetic process at a moment one finds picturesque. Every technical object is a provisional structuration of a being that never ceases to individuate.

I think all the anti-American sentiment in Europe is due to jealousy and the fact that these retards have never been to America outside of tourist traps and don't realize that janitors and gas station attendants actually make more money than they do and the only reason they don't know is cause the continent is so racist against anyone who isn't European and sexist against men that literally the people who would actually help out their economies refuse to move there. I once wrote a poem for anon
to see if I could improve my Poem canon
It was easy to type

I couldn't be assed to find a rhyme for "type"
that wasn't fight.

And they all lived unhappily ever after!
