With grrm not finishing his series and Brandon’s slogfest of an epic should remind /lit/ that stand alones or trilogies are the only acceptable forms in lit. I have never read a long series that ended satisfactorily

What about in between with book and sequel?

the best fantasy series is 41 books long, just avoid hacks

Stand alones?

Looks like slop

These are stand alones (episodic) similar to op’s pic

It's funny because Redwall is basically ASOIAF for kids. It's got two of GRRM's favorite things: massive feasts and gruesome deaths. Kid me was always amazed at how much blood and gore the Redwall books got away with while being ostensibly for children.

Violence in children stories was kinda the norm pre 2000s even Disney had beheadings in Hercules

Between Redwall and Animorphs, I see my parents did not vet books 9 year old me was consuming.
When I wanted to read Jurassic Park they didn’t try to discourage me either. I assume they didnt read far enough until the visceral disembowlments started happening.

Nedry's death in the books definitely spooked me as a kid, reading it at night on my bed.

lol I somehow became the middle school censor because I was autistically reading everything, so the library would give me books to read to see if they needed censoring. I read a book about a kid getting a broom stuck up his ass in juvy

Im working on the ending of mine and it's gonna be piping hot kino

When Brian Jacques died I fully expected that someone would take up his helm and keep the Redwall series going, like James Bond or Jason Bourne.
>>
>>25457953
People are talking about it a lot more recently. It's come up a half-dozen times this week across multiple boards, when I hadn't heard anyone talk about it for years. So maybe something's brewing in the zeitgeist.

Maybe the announcement of the Warrior Cats video game stirred up people's nostalgia.
>>
>>25458012
Warrior Cats doesn't hold a candle to Redwall. WC was a chick's series anyways.

Jacques’s work is the antithesis to the amoral society that modern media is pushing
>Abbeys are always good
>vermin are always bad

Read the Jon Shannow trilogy.

Tetralogy, I mean.

Essentially all of these books are standalone, even within individual subseries they are mostly self contained stories, just with repeated central characters
>>
I dunno where fantasy/sci-fi writers get their egos from. No, I don't want to read your hacky Lord of the Rings/Dune/A Song of Ice and Fire rip-off that's longer than In Search of Lost Time. Keep your shit under 1500 pages.
>>
The very first book "Redwall" will forever be my favourite.
>>25459971
Bit of a non sequitur.
>>25459885
>>pro religion
The books got less and less religious in nature as they went on.
