I can see how someone can reach at high enough level to translate foreign works quickly in that case. It's not like he wrote a great novel in German. Unfortunately it's also true that his translation stuff started around 2021. Aka post-AI. AI translation was already really good, especially for mainstream languages like German. But that's unfortunately not that uncommon for translator. MTL first, then polish it.

He has mostly published Russian translation of Vladimir Sorokin. He has a German translation of Schattenfroh coming out this year. He has an Italian translation coming out soon, and he famously got into a twitter spat over the translation quality of an unpublished translation of Turkish novel and said the translation was so bad that he and was going to write a new and get it published. He says French is his best language, and he said on reddit that for all the other languages he needs extensive help in understanding context, idiom, deeper meaning, etc. beyond a literal translation.
