I know everyone here who reads him makes a thread like this, but really, his greatest flaw was just his delusion, as is evident by the fact that many people would kill and torture for his life whereas no one would do the same for the life of a truly disgraceful incel or someone else of a similar caliber. His addiction, fabricated persona, depression, are things that most people already have. He, however, also happens to be a famous author and adept womanizer and his delusion made him blind to those qualities which would vindicate life for many. After all, it's not like he's whining about how the world is a meaningless shithole devoid of any single redeemable quality. His depression is presented as being entirely directed inward.
I am almost certain that his "I fail as a human" persona was partly just another fabrication designed to make hinself appealing to women, as a problem that could be solved, namely by the fact that what he claims does not mark him as human is actually extremely human and quite relatable.

Finished reading 服装に就いて the other day. It was a good read, very much explored his awkwardness, affectations, and social shortcomings. The parts where he was talking about how his school friends would tease him for what he wore was a good showcase of a young boy not knowing his identity and trying and failing at exploring things. As it progressed into stories from later on his life, it felt like he was using his clothes as a a scapegoat to avoid having to come to terms that it's his nature that's the problem.Worth a read, would recommend.Got it as part of an anthology I picked up of his.So far 服装に就いて>ミミズク通信>ろまん燈籠令嬢アユ is next, sounds interesting.
