Is the written essay making a comeback amongst zoomers?
>>
>>25458366
I'm thinking of enforcing a no-devices rule in my class, because even when I set essays a couple of my kids just bang in the question as a prompt and copy the results
>>
>>25458368
Do you ever comment to those kids "You'll be on the front lines getting shot by the Chinese," or something along those lines?
>>
>>25458370
No, because we are chinese
>>

the Chinese would never kill their own

The short answer is no.
The long answer is zoomers kinda fuck with video essays, no cap.
But ones in publications like the economist ain't bussin with the youth.
Instead their readership are all Uncs and old-heads.

This shit is so perplexing. They can't watch a 90min movie without taking breaks, but they'll watch 120 minutes of a moron waxing poetic over Mario's nipples.
Then again I suppose they don't really pay attention.
>>

How can you read then if your eyes are only half way open then?
>>
>>25459036
Speaking for myself, my retention of information from a video essay isn't the greatest.
>>
>>25459065
Video “essays” purposely dilute information, so I don't blame you.

Hijacking this thread to ask: how does one go about becoming an essayist?
The American education system conditioned me into falling for the 5 paragraph MLA essay meme but other than that I have 0 experience with writing essays. I've read a few of them from magazines at work and they all seem to be well structured and able to tell a narrative without sounding too preachy about it. How does one learn this superpower? Are there any books one should read if one wants to become an essayist?

>5 paragraph MLA essay meme
What is that?
>How
Learn to structure your essays so that they describe your idea sequentially and rationally, so that each point flows naturally and logically to the next. That's what I see missing from most school essays nowadays. Also honest self-critique and a meta-consideration of the disadvantages and alternatives.

if you take away the hyper-stimulation visual element from it you realize it's just a key jangling distraction from the fact that they have nothing to say. if it's showing a different image every 5 seconds it's just entertainment, not education.

How is that not the default everywhere?

The stuff I hear about in public schools is wild.
