My least favorite pessimist by miles and for some strange reason, the only pessimist not chased out of the room in polite discussion.Make it make sense.
>>25460517I'm ESL and at first I read>What would be left of our (written) tragedies if an insect (non human perspective) were to present us... *waves vaguely at what is around him* this?and I was like damn man *hits pipe* that's deep...

Does he mean that an insect's tragedy would overtake ours in the sense that an insect suffers more than we do? Anyway it made me think: suppose there are higher conscious beings in existence (higher in the evolutionary ladder in the same sense we are to hens, for example), than I guess those beings' tragedies would be a lot more tragic than ours as they should be more sensitive. In this case an insect's tragedy is whatever compared to ours - and since we are on 4chan: I still think the average anon suffers more than the average starving African child.
>>25461971It's a humoristic quote. Obviously insects aren't gifted with consciousness and can't really feel pain the way we do but it would be funny to imagine a man devastated by the loss of a close one one or because of love and then you have this insect guy on his shoulder comforting him by explaining his own problems like >>25460520 said.
>>25460517I think there's a Calvin&Hobbes comic comparing girls and insects - they're both blissfully unaware of the joke played on them by the universe.>>25461971Voltaire asked that to a woman, who answered that our ability to suffer is proportionate to our ability to think - a peasant can suffer as much as a philosopher but not for the same reason and the philosopher would be incorrect to dismiss the suffering of the peasant on the sole basis the he could cope with it.
