Are we due a new renaissance? Will one come?
>>
>>25460822
What does that even mean!
>>
>>25460832
rebirth
>>
>>25460822
The Renaissance was the beginning of the end. We need a collapse to start anew.
>>
Wasn't the first Renaissance all about artists trying harder than ever to make good shit? We're basically in the exact opposite era, people are trying harder than ever to shit out mountains of sham products for ad revenue, lol.
>>
>>25460822
A few hundred years probably. We're still in the downfall stage. Gotta stew in that for a couple centuries before we're really primed for a comeback.
>>
>>25460986
Renaissance was about bankers reaching the highest strata of society, spreading pagan and mytic thoughts and ideal, and sponsoring artists to focus on the physical plane (idealized bodies, sensual nudes, even in religious art) over the metaphysical one to uproot the established order.
We're right in the continuation of that era.
>>
You’re living in it.

No. The causes of a renaissance (such as you're talking about) are threefold: Money, status, and a gathering of minds. The commonalities between all renaissances and golden ages of learning are 1) the will of the wealthy to invest in the results of learning, 2) the perception of learning as a status symbol or something a person of high status would like to have around them in their friends, 3) the gathering of scholars from disparate locations to a center or centers for the purpose of producing a product of learning, 4) the conversation between those scholars separated by distance of time and/or land, 5) a lingua franca or a very few lingua francas in which all scholarship is done, aiding in the widespread dispersion of ideas. I guess there's a way you could twist things to make it seem like we currently fulfill all five of those conditions, but it'd be dishonest.
>>
>>25460822
Not just yet. More women should start to wear shirts that display their midriff before the new renaissance will begin. That will get the creative juices flowing! Guys aren't spending enough on their women, and they hate their lives cause they are "constipated" now from lack of joy at seeing womens navels, but If the new renaissance begins today it will certainly be places like Hawaii or Spain at the epicenter where you can go to see plenty of women's navels. They need to push out tech bros and tech sisters who are all covering themselves as if they need to wear a hijab because they work with data strictures, or bring back the "tech babe" look for women in technology.

21st century will be regarded as another dark age in future. When the internet machine gets turned off all we will lo the future generation will be piles of trash. What's blu-ray disc without blu-ray player. What's blu-ray player without TV and electrical socket. What's electrical socket without electricity network. etc.
Idk if we are ever leaving this dark age, kind of doubtful, humanity will just double down on being retarded and AI will make it impossible for human spirit to not be enslaved by immaterial information technology.
It's over. Especially considering that future generations of humanity will be mixture of pajeets, muslims and black africans. That will be literal dark age.
It's over.
>>
>>25461302
>another dark age
This is a Molochian age, not another anything. If anything the dark ages might be seen as a golden age in retrospect
>>
>>25461325
Dark age is time period when people lose ability to write and read and leave no written word for future civilizations. This is what we are in now.
>>
>>25461333
hurr durr what are printers???

You don't know what you're talking about. This is all material. Take some classes in computer science.

>brooo in 1000 years people will just take micro USB cable and plug the SSD we left them into their computers!
>>
>>25461360
Completely irrelevant to what I said. Again, take some classes in computer science. None of this information is immaterial. Just admit you made a mistake in your wording and move on.

First a real revolution, and not one put on by the zionist Hollywood/Pentagon machine.
I believe the truth can spark a rebirth well enough, but only after weeding through the sanctioned facts of this world.
But are our minds too riddled with poisons and lies to make any move towards this?

Depends on Xi's successors
>>
>>25461503
That has been another failed capitalist project.
Illiberal capitalism can do that whole industrialization thing and look all impressive, but what good has it done really? Say the Israeli plan does sink the US to 4th world status and the multipolar BRICS rises. Global wars decrease. Oo, wow. So what? This is the New World Order now. Nothing good will come of it.
Bakunin remains right.
>>
>>25461536
>Nothing good will come of it.
Their mentality is different. The Chinese under Xi actually seem to have an appreciation for western culture and literature. I'm not saying they'll save the west, but they'll certainly make it spiritually better than with the US at the helm. Future doesn't necessarily look bright but brighter.
>>
>>25461567
>The Chinese under Xi actually seem to have an appreciation for western culture and literature
Elaborate.
>>
>>25461567
>spiritually better
They're materialists like the West.
And they're wasting money on TOKAMAKs
>>
>>25461572
I'm eating outside nigman please just google or AI por favor but I'll tldr

Didn't read but it's probably good:
https://changche.substack.com/p/how-china-came-to-love-the-western
+ Western looking cities inside China, I'm sure you know them (useful for Chinese tourism I know, and kinda look like theme parks, but it's a stark contrast to what the new european cities the rest of the world is given)
+ All the different speeches where he talked about his appreciation for western literature (look em up)

>>25461588
>They're materialists like the West
I know, Xi is very pragmatic when it comes to religions, but it still is better for the soul than what the US is shitting out
>>
>>25461601
Also the number of western classics translated under Xi stands in stark contrast to what came before. I posted the first link hoping it would tackle that but since I don't actually know I'll just mention right now. Now I go and maybe come back later
>>
>>25461601
Well the West is shitting out a tighter grip on the population that resembles China's.
Like all states they wish to have tighter control over the workforce and soldiers and make them obey without question. The West quietly admires China for that.
You want that?
>>
IMO, we are at the very beginning of the 2nd Renaissance already. Just not one spearheaded by humans.
AIs are making new progress in mathematics every month now, proving them--at the hands of experts--to be far superior to human mathematicians.
What's this got to do with humanities and arts, you ask?
Well, the progress in theoretical maths will eventually turns into advances in technologies, and new technologies allow new ways for humans to live, to create, to express themselves.
Instead of following in the footsteps of the great, such as Da Vinci and Donatello, we will model our ways of being after new inventions--holograms, or genetic manipulation, or artificial womb, etc.
Young peope today will likely see some weird shit before they die.
I think they'll do fine, and hope that I will be there to see the results.
If not...I am old enough to know the quiet before social media and constant internet, and that's a luxury few can afford today.

So we're basically in the trough of enshittification, brutalism and corporate memphis (or whatever the fuck that one artystyle is called)? It sounds like we need some sort of upheaval or an intense overnight event to force taste back into society
>>
>>25460822
We will either have a new renaissance and a utopia or a new dark age and the biggest nightmare humanity has ever seen, and very soon, the choice is up to us, it doesn't take many people to change the world, even one can.

The Italian renaissance came from 2 sources essentially:
1. early mercantile capitalism started making stupid money but under medieval christian morality, such hoarding was generally seen as a sin, so to compensate these new rich merchants started heavily investing into public projects and artwork in churches
2. a large (re-)translation wave from the Islamic world, (re-)introduced many greek philosophers (especially Plato) to the west, and shared many scientific advancements from the islamic world.

The only way i can see something like a renaissance happening would therefore be:
1. the rise of a new successful post-capitalist economic form leads to a huge boost in funding for artistic productivity. (probably not gonna happen any time soon) or
2. Soft power from another culture (most likely China) results in a re-appreciation of both our and their culture.
A good example of how this might look is picrel. Its the top 100 books from Douban books, the Chinese equivalent to goodreads. Obviously a lot of popular slop in there as might be expected, but surprisingly literate in western literature, and surprisingly different from the current western taste.
>>
We're in one right now, OP. But it's being aborted. Again.
>>
It wasn't from the islamic world but from the byzantine world.
The first wave from toledo to Europe was mostly the rediscovering of a large corpus of Aristotle
Everything else especially culture, homer, greek religion, greek fathers etc come from byzantines who still were educated with those books because it represented their ancient culture and also the style to reproduce.
Even commentaries or glosses or anything you can think of ancient greek, you can thanks mostly byzantians.

>>25461099
>continuation
The reformation undid all of it. We've entered a new Renaissance and the question is, whether it is going to survive. And the answer is no.
>>
Anyone who answers "no" to this question is a blind, foolish ignoramus and their opinion not only on this subject but on all subjects can be safely discarded. We are rapidly approaching a great social upheaval and revolution. Historically all past revolutions have been accompanied by a tremendous, radical flourishing of the arts and popular culture. This time we should expect nothing different. There will be an enormous literary renaissance in the near future and one day historians will look back on the state of the world from the second half of the twentieth century up until the first third or so of the twenty-first as a sort of mini cultural dark age.
>>
>>25461799
Interesting, there is a lot the west could learn from China but first they would have to continue privatizing.
>>25461853
The 20th century was a total apocalyptic disaster that I hope will be remembered for 1000 years or more, we must not repeat it with AI and learn from our mistakes

I cannot speak for the rest of the rest of the world. American culture is undergoing some interesting developments that make me hopeful for the future.
