>is cruel to his pregnant wife because he cares too much about glory, gets wounded and loses her as a result.
>Could have married Natasha, but decided to hold off on it for a year because he was too caught up in his own doubts.
>Doesn’t look after his son.
>Goes back to war after his first experience went so badly. >Dies.

Why did Andrei fumble every single chance at happiness he was given? The guy was set up for life and he threw it all away for nothing.

My answer to your post hinges on whether you are gonna ask "what's the point?" or not.

Didn't do enough geometry, didn't listen to his based dad.

Currently reading Anna Karenina because my dad asked the whole family to read it for his birthday. The Levin chapters are great, but every Anna chapter I want to stop reading. After Madam Bovary I said I never wanted to read a woman's novel again, which is to say a novel predominantly about the domestic, courtship, marriage, social standing, female friendship/rivalry, sexual double standards regarding infidelity, etc, with very little attention paid to male interests like adventure, business, professional ambition, exploration, politics, or intellectualism. In some ways the Anba chapters feel even more of a slog than Bovary was.

I felt the opposite, I found Levin's chapters to be a bore, but I liked Anna's chapters, especially her death scene.
Anyway, it seems like you prefer romances over novels. Which is a defensible position, I'd also much rather reread Gravity's Rainbow than honor the ballsack.
