Just finished Swann's way. It would occasionally have passages that really hit me, but usually would take like 30-50 pages to get there. I like that it forced me to be patient, probably for the best to remove the idea that a book needs to be constantly engaging to be rewarding.

Chapter two of my current writing project.
No I don't really like it, mainly because I don't think it's building tension in the way I intend before the big action scene.
I am tempted to cut the first half and just extend the action scene to take up the whole chapter to avoid boring a potential reader.
It already bad enough that chapter 1 is probably going to get cut in it's entirety in the second rewrite to better fit subgenera conventions.
Right now it isn't structured like a reader of the subgenera would expect which would create a friction point and make them drop the book.
Some of my word choices and phases need to be simplified or cut too.

Got to remember I am not writing for myself, I am writing to please a wider audience.
It's annoying but it's far better than being unread and ignored.

Mostly rereading stuff I last read as a teenager.
Shakespeare’s comedies, which I mostly like because they’re funny, especially comedy of errors, but there also some real beautiful jewels of language and beauty in them.
The Iliad, it’s one of the only books I’ve ever read that actually writes combat and action in an exciting way whilst also tying that action into the wider cultural narrative that the story tells of the coming together of the whole of their world. It’s significantly reduced my already low estimation of modern genre fiction because of how lamely they write action. I’m guessing it’s because modern genre fiction is mostly written by nerds who’ve never seen action or modern military people who mostly can’t even see who they’re shooting at or being shot by, whereas in that world nearly all the men were soldiers.

Endō, Silence, and Bentley Hart, All things are Full of Gods. I wish God would talk to me again.

Also Mearsheimer, the Israel Lobby. Feel like they must have crucified him for this one.

Anyone else feel like it's kinda gay to hang out with other men a lot? Usually when I go out I prefer to be around girls ever since I was a teenager.

Picked up a semi-autobiography of a prolific war correspondents travels from various post-colonial period African warzones and his coverage of said wars. Guy is apparently the oldest living active war correspondent in the world and, I recently discovered, an avid scuba diver just like myself.
