That I was under pressure. That I was frightened. That everyone around me expected me to succeed. All of it is true, and none of it matters.The worst part is that I don't think I was caught pretending to be clever.I was caught being empty.Tomorrow there will be meetings and emails and explanations. People will use words like misconduct and investigation and disciplinary action. Perhaps they will say that this does not define me.I wish I believed them.I am sorry to the people who trusted me. I am sorry to those whose work I took and whose names I pushed aside so that mine could appear where theirs belonged.I don't know how to become the person everyone thought I was.And I no longer know how to live with being the person I actually am.Please forgive me.If this is for a particular kind of suicide, I could also make it more British/academic and understated, or much more disturbing and emotionally ambiguous.

An overlooked aspect of this case is that Jason Arday spent his entire academic career at teachers college type institutions, where this kind of thing is the norm. None of it’s actual science or knowledge, and most people in the field are glorified motivational speakers. The teachers colleges are why we just taught kids to read wrong for like 15 years.
