>>25490094>There's literally nothing to those books, besides the proseThere's nothing to any book beside prose, you absolute fucking retard. That's what a book is
>genre fiction plotfag discovers expression of themes and ideas with beautiful writing are more important than plot and characters
>>25490097Okay, prosecuck.
I'm pretty certain all the posts like this are the same guy. We are seeing someone posting a lot of very similar threads about how plot is the most important and whatever. I think he just designs new threads based on what people say when they argue with him. We can call him Plotfag, and we are all going to ignore him from this point on.
>>25490094>meanwhile what prosesissy manchildren think is a masterpiece
>>25490103I don't need to only read genre fiction to read books with actually well done story telling and themes. Next, you'll tell me that Flowers For Algernon is genre fiction? Prosecucks are some of the most miserable readers to exist.
>>25490110anti-prosesissy*This is what bad prose does to you. Learn from my mistakes.
>>25490110Ew, I am not a fucking degnerate.>>25490109Sorry to rein your parade, but I have no clue who the fuck you are talking about. Are you one of those retards, who thinks that every person who disagrees with you is one person? Cope harder. Most people recognize you as a snobbish prosecuck.
>>25490094TRVKE>>25490110KEEEEEEEEEEEK
>>25490113You're a genre fiction plotfag at heart because that's all you can appreciate. It doesn't matter what you actually read, it's your spirit, and you've let me peek at it with the retarded words that you have transmitted to me through the internet and which I have now viewed on my computer screen.
>>25490110You really want to go there chud?
>>25490118>Sorry to rein your parade>Are you one of those retards, who thinks thatUnsurprising that the anon who writes these phrases is the same anon who thinks prose isn't important
>>25490121Meds.

>>25490127Your point, prosecuck?
>>25490123Why are minotaurs so hot though?
>>25490130I pegged you, buddy.
For every one Morning Glory there's 10 litrpg harem sex book you chuddyboys keep wanting.+3 to doggy style+1 to ejaculation amount+2 to stamina That's way stupider than giving a blowjob to a minotaur
>>25490094People will seethe, but you're 100% right. It's very telling about McCarthy's handling (or lack thereof) of human psychology that the only even remotely interesting character in Blood Meridian is the literal supernatural force of evil. Compare to someone like Faulkner, who could make a family of random poor white Southern farmers feel like the most interesting and complicated people in the entire world. McCarthy couldn't even make a gang of fucking scalpers compelling. He had to add Satan into the mix just to keep the reader engaged.
>>25490136Chuds have the decency to coom 2min in instead of binging beastiality erotica though. Hence the low rating numbers of goyreads. I can't even open my copy anymore
>>25490146>Catgirls>Doggirls>Cowgirls>Goblin girls>SnakegirlsLol you're just digging yourself deeper like crawdads trying to find the fountain of youth. Uncle Reemus has better stories than the shit you're trying to defend
>>25490146Also the endless number of elf girls
/v/-tier thread
>>25490152>>25490154Notice how all of them look like women? Chuds have way more respect for women than women do for men or their own bodies. Let's not talk about goodreads rating either, Chuds do not dare poison their thoughts with such filth
>>25490097Actually there's nothing to a book besides, paper, ink, glue, and the cover. Let's start judging books solely on the quality of those materials.
>>25490166That's just booktok
>>25490156Adds a little bit of life to the board.
>>25490142You're acting like they aren't stylistic choices, which is just wrong. One you like more than the other, that's all.
>>25490179I suppose you're right that it could have been a stylistic choice by McCarthy to make all of the human characters completely flat, lifeless, and more or less indistinguishable from one another. But it's a stylistic choice I feel lacks any real depth or power, though, as you say, that's ultimately a subjective value judgement so I guess I have no way of substantiating it beyond saying that I prefer my human characters to feel human.
>>25490179>It's a muh stylistic choice!Seethe and cope harder.
>>25490165Oh yes so human.
>>25490188The Sound and The Fury expresses its themes through characters, Blood Meridian did it through symbolism. One is harder to grasp so I understand your snark as a coping mechanism to lash out against something you don't understand.
>>25490142Wow you unironically got filtered if you think this. The Mennonite is at least as characterized than Holden is, just subtly. McCarthy was a minimalist and probably autistic but this is just flat out wrong I think. Are you esl?
>>25490197Looks that way for anyone who isn't an ableist bigot
>>25490205Ok now you're just being a midwit. It doesn't take a genius to uncover the penetrating "symbolism" of Blood Meridian like Jude Holden being a stand-in for War and the supposed innate human tendency to violence. As if it wasn't obvious enough, this "symbolism" is more or less directly stated in the opening epigraphs.
>>25490214You're right, it doesn't take a genius.
>>25490205Also I was very obviously referencing As I Lay Dying, not The Sound and the Fury. The Compsonsy are from the landed gentry; they are not poor farmers. A minor point but it does help illustrate your midwitticism.
>>25490220Now who's being snarky? I'm sorry your favorite Reddit book is intellectually shallow and you're not actually special for enjoying it, anon. Don't take it out on me.
>>25490230A lot of projection in this one. I'll just restate what I previously said. It was obviously a stylistic choice and you simply prefer one to the other. Your reading of Blood Meridian appears to be a shallow one from your posts and your snarky comment of his characterization in the novel is beside the point.
>>25490235Yeah if this guy isn't trolling it's sad as hell
I could easily overpower and rape everyone itt.
>>25490238Oh okay.
>>25490235I was ready to agree with you that it's just a matter of preference, but you're the one who insisted that it's actually a matter of not "understanding" the apparently intricate hidden symbolism of Blood Meridian (which you have yet to elaborate on) that makes one prefer books with human characters that display signs of genuine human thought and feeling.
>>25490239And that is the only truth of life, except I overpower you.
>>25490243>I was ready to agree with you >>25490188Don't act like that is what this post is doing.
>>25490244I would make you suck your blood off my cock.
>>25490250It was. You read it as snark, but no snark was intended. I don't think one has to prefer "human characters that feel human" to legitimately enjoy a book. I've in fact heard people, some on this board, compliment books because the human characters didn't feel human. Fans of Bret Easton Ellis often say this, actually. It's genuinely a matter of taste and intellectual viewpoint. For instance, misanthropic writers like Houellebecq portray humans in ways that I personally find repulsive and inartistic, but if I was a misanthrope I would no doubt actually find those depictions compelling and truthful.
>>25490177In the same way Indian immigrants add life to any nation I suppose
>>25490094>WOW THE GAMEPLAY IS SO AWESOME!>IT'S NOT A GAME FOR THE UNEDUCATED PLEB LIKE YOU!>Looks inside.>There's literally nothing to those games, besides the gameplay>Some of the worst and most mind numbing storytelling to exist.>mf, it's all a snobbish circlejerkWhy are gameplaycucks like this?
>>25490260Fair enough then and I apologize for reading it that way. For the record I just picked a random Faulkner novel off of the top of my head without even thinking about what you had actually said. As I Lay Dying is actually my favorite novel of his.
>>25490270> As I Lay Dying is actually my favorite novel of his.Based. I apologize for calling you a midwit, anon. No midwit could have such good taste.
>>25490260>I've in fact heard people, some on this board, compliment books because the human characters didn't feel human
>>25490277It seems that Melville here is actually defending his portrayal of inconsistent characters on the grounds that it makes them feel more human, not less. And I agree with him. When I say a character "doesn't feel human", usually that means I think they feel exceptionally one-note or cartoonishly exaggerated. A character that feels inconsistent, contradictory, or ambivalent is actually more likely to strike me as genuinely human, unless those features don't add up to a greater whole or coherent portrait.
>>25490094if you can't appreciate the prose in something like blood meridian then you have no soul, simple as. I mean listen to this shit, come on:>They rode for days through the rain and they rode through rain and hail and rain again. In that gray storm light they crossed a flooded plain with the footed shapes of the horses reflected in the water among clouds and mountains and the riders slumped forward and rightly skeptic of the shimmering cities on the distant shore of that sea whereon they trod miraculous. They climbed up through rolling grasslands where small birds shied away chittering down the wind and a buzzard labored up from among bones with wings that went whoop whoop whoop like a child’s toy swung on a string and in the long red sunset the sheets of water on the plain below them lay like tidepools of primal blood.>It was raining again and they rode slouched under slickers hacked from greasy halfcured hides and so cowled in these primitive skins before the gray and driving rain they looked like wardens of some dim sect sent forth to proselytize among the very beasts of the land. The country before them lay clouded and dark. They rode through the long twilight and the sun set and no moon rose and to the west the mountains shuddered again and again in clattering frames and burned to final darkness and the rain hissed in the blind night land. They went up through the foothills among pine trees and barren rock and they went up through juniper and spruce and the rare great aloes and the rising stalks of the yuccas with their pale blooms silent and unearthly among the evergreens.>In the night they followed a mountain torrent in a wild gorge choked with mossy rocks and they rode under dark grottoes where the water dripped and spattered and tasted of iron and they saw the silver filaments of cascades divided upon the faces of distant buttes that appeared as signs and wonders in the heavens themselves so dark was the ground of their origins. They crossed the blackened wood of a burn and they rode through a region of cloven rock where great boulders lay halved with smooth uncentered faces and on the slopes of those ferric grounds old paths of fire and the blackened bones of trees assassinated in the mountain storms. On the day following they began to encounter holly and oak, hardwood forests much like those they had quit in their youth. In pockets on the north slopes hail lay nested like tectites among the leaves and the nights were cool. They traveled through the high country deeper into the mountains where the storms had their lairs, a fiery clangorous region where white flames ran on the peaks and the ground bore the burnt smell of broken flint. At night the wolves in the dark forests of the world below called to them as if they were friends to man and Glanton’s dog trotted moaning among the endlessly articulating legs of the horses.
>>25490205Expressing through "symbolism", is just a shortcut for writers that can't write compelling characters, and want to seem smart, and the fact that midwits likes you fall for it, proves that it works. Cope harder.
>>25490297Are you a STEMfag? They're the kind to insist that there is one and only one way of doing things.
>>25490206>It's just subtle! You are not intellectual enough to grasp the meaning from the lackluster characterization!
>>25490235Prosecucks really are miserable. They have to construct an elaborate cope that every bad and lackluster aspect is a "stylistic choice", that you are not high IQ enough, to see past.
>>25490297LOL
>>25490290If I wanted to read about mountains and shit, I would read a travelogue. I mean, look at the text you posted. Does it develop some plot? Does it characterize a character? Does it touch on some deep theme? The answer is no. It's all style over substance. Only prosecuck pseudointellectuals herald it as the best thing ever written.
