/rape/ - Religion, Academia, Politics and Economics
Vance is weird because there is a lot of rape in his books but it isn't done in an edgy or fetishistic way. It just happens and everyone shrugs and moves on. There are even a few instances where men get raped by ugly women and it's treated like a slightly embarrassing escapade.
>>25494974>it isn't done in an edgy or fetishistic way>it's treated like a slightly embarrassing escapadeSo basically the anti GRRM?
>>25494884>t. Gretchen Felker-Martin
>>25494974To me all Vance books have a slightly ethereal fairy-tale/dream esque quality to themA lot of stuff that would garner a much greater impact irl just kind of happens and is accepted in his stuff just like how shit that makes no sense in a dream is just kind of whatever while you're dreaming
>>25494884Try this one
>>25494974>There are even a few instances where men get raped by ugly women and it's treated like a slightly embarrassing escapade. That's kind of how it works irl too kek
>>25494884Every book written before the 1970s qualifies, as either character or author could rape his wife with impunity.>inb4 baitYou're scum
>>25494884Is it bad that I dropped this book after Suldrun foils what was supposed to be an easy escape for her and her newlywed husband by stupidly walking into a room alone with a creepy drunk priest?I interpreted that scene as her being raped, even if it was explicitly stated, and felt so bad that the dude got cucked by a fat old priest that I lost motivation to continue reading.
>>25495921Yes, because the story stops being told from suldrun's perspective like 10% into the book
>>25494974Carfilhiot gets anally raped with hundreds of barbed quills and he treats it like an annoyance.
>>25497536That's not what it says.
>>25497644A hundred barbed quills, not hundreds, my bad, Mr. Pedantic.
>>25497666There is no anal rape. The quills are thrust into the buttocks, the Christmas hams.
>>25498385Ah, that is true. When they said "into his buttocks," I was thinking about his anus specifically.
