>>25496524Yeah the popular framing on this is wild. I was truly astonished at the afterword by some random 2010 feminist about how radical and utopian her vision of a community of just women was. I mean the whole point of that section of the book was that their lives without men (ie without a future) were just a bleak spinning of wheels and finding distractions until it's time for the girl with the least disgust to euthanize you. The protagonist stresses again and again how pointless and hopeless the removal of men has made life, and how quickly the women gave up on finding something to do. The book is about people needing to put down their divisive internal models of what "those people" are like and reach out and appreciate the things we can offer each other, but the sales and the academic packaging just HAVE to be GRR MAN BAD SMASH PATRIARCHY
