It freaks me out that I was born human and not a cockroach or something. Do you take the side that this means nothing, or that you were chosen?
Cockroaches are condemned to a life of being stepped on, thrown in toilets and poisoned to death. At least when you're human you can decide your fate, somewhat.
>>25498967It means nothing. You think this because you're human. If you were anything else you wouldn't be sapient, although I guess we don't really know what goes on in the minds of a dolphin or elephant or octopus or whatever. Maybe Flipper wishes he were reading Descarte and shitposting on 4chan but he can't speak human so he's reduced to doing tricks for fish.
>>25498967What makes you think they're not just NPCs?
>>25498983>At least when you're human you can decide your fateWhat if as a human I want an older Asian woman to step on me and use me as a toilet?
>>25498994That would complicate things more
>>25498967It's confirmation bias because you're able to think that. What should really activate your almonds is wondering why you were born into a life you can afford to shitpost on 4chan in your spare time, instead of being an illiterate rape victim in an African refugee camp or something similar.
>>25498967I take the side that the cockroach chose me to be human.
>>25499012That is part of my point. We know other consciousnesses exist obviously, because there's you and me. Now does that extend to animals? Aliens? In any case, something or someone chose my body to inhabit.
>>25499020I don't think it works that way. There isn't a pool of souls waiting to get born into bodies and you ended up a human while the one next in line was turned into a dog that got eaten by a Chinaman. You're here asking this inane shit because your consciousness is a product of your species. It's like people seeing a story and asking "why does this book follow this guy all the wild stuff happens to?" The answer is because it wouldn't be an interest book if it followed someone else.
>>25499020>We know other consciousnesses exist obviously, because there's you and meHOWEVER
>>25499026Are you saying effects don't have a cause? You think shit happens just because?
>>25499033I'm open to other ideas, but yeah that's what I believe so far. I wasn't put on this planet to enjoy outdoor sex with floofy haired black girls. Who I am is a combination of my genetics and upbringing. It's not like under other circumstances there'd be a garter snake slithering around with an unfulfilled case of jungle fever.
>>25498967i think it's incoherent.there's no further fact about "which consciousness is you", no secret subject internal to the subject which could have hypothetically been located inside any other subject.
>>25499064Asking this question is exactly why religion and therefore humanity has been able to develop
>>25499097>religion and therefore humanityHumanity has only been held back by believing in fairly tails about magic sky friends instead of science and intellect.
>>25498967any being capable of higher self awareness (consciousness) that was about to assemble itself would need a consciousness, you werent placed into it, you were created from the neurons, but you did essentialy get RNGd into a specific human, instead of a higher being, god, or something in some utopia world, unfortunately.
>>25498967i was chosen but it means nothing because i'm a waste
>>25499137Randomness is famously difficult, aka impossible, to prove in science
>>25499280>presses *Tell Me More* button
>>25499560This is better than I can explain.
>>25498967Your soul wasn't waiting around for the next available body to be shunted into. If your dad had came five seconds earlier or later then a different sperm would've fertilized the egg and "you" would have never been.
Do you belive that you'd be so generic a cockroach that it wouldn't be something special and unlikely for you to be a cockroach?
>>25498967When I was 12 I wondered why I was so lucky to be born in the U.S like why not Gabon or Mauritania or Ecuador. Now I work with some people from India and they tell me about their country. I’m not sure I’d want to live there but there’s certainly more soul and life in places like there or Brazil. I don’t even know my neighbors here…the U.S is soulless and vapid where in poorer countries people actually seem more alive.
>>25498967the only possible coherent narrative to apply to my life is to "the writer is a retarded hack and has shit taste">>25499029"however" what? Neville doesn't make a counterpoint to that
>>25498967Equally weird is the fact that you were born you and not me.
