Many on the left reject evolutionary psychology explanations as being arbitrary stories. I do not think this critique is accurate regarding evo psych, but it is forceful when applied to their explanations. For instance, views of female beauty. An evo psych person would say these are shaped, as in other animals, by features indicating youth, health and fertility. In a word, fitness. The cultural/social explanation seems to explain these cross-cultural standards in terms of capricious malice. These standards, they say, are entirely or mostly taught in order, for instance, to make women feel bad or to "control" them or out of sheer malice. And then you ask why this is the case, that is, why are these the standards? Why the pursuit of control or whatever? I have been unable to find an answer to this, as to what they view as the ultimate cause of these phenomena. Or put another way, what is the origin of this culture/society?
leftist conspiracy theories never need be explained nor supported by evidence, chud.
>>25499194To be fair, many on the right reject evolution explicitly. The left denies it implicitly, selectively etc.
>>25499206it sucks to get your copes blown out, but in the long run it's better to live in reality.
>>25499187>Or put another way, what is the origin of this culture/society?language
>>25499213Elaborate.Men, for instance, generally prefer a certain waist to hip ratio across time and space, due to language? We observe similar behaviour in animals that lack langauge.Language is only a picture of things. It did not cause the things to be, but only reflects them.
>>25499187Society has become completely performative due to disconnection from nature and truth, it's all meaningless bullshit it's not that complicated, standard Uncle Ted stuff, very obvious.Humans have a bullshit metric and a truth metric, when the bullshit metric overwhelms the truth metric due to lack of incentives to engage with reality bluntly, you have a bullshit society that usually fails.tldr it's all bullshit
>>25499224>language reflects external realityPublish sir and anticipate your Nobel.
>>25499238>um, actually the word "water" doesn't refer to the thing water in reality, it refers to magical dragons and social dynamics.
>>25499238But what does it mean to say language is the origin of society? Or more specifically, that it is the cause of any given phenomenon which is supposed to have a social/cultural cause? It appears to me only a tool or mirror of society. If, for instance, humans did not feel hunger or have the necessity of eating, our social organisation would vastly change. But this would not be a change caused by some alteration in language.
>>25499232Nature means very little. Man and technology are no less a part of nature than termites and termite mounds or bees and their hives.
>>25499297Truth then, you are an obtuse fool. Reread the post.
>>25499306I do not think society is any more disconnected from the truth than in the past, when people believed in god, polytheism, magic, soothsaying, myths, miracles etc.
>>25499333We still believe in all those things we just made modern versions of them, voting, psychology, materialism, politics, genderism, global warming etc. When society cares more about rhetoric than reality, they will make up all kinds of nonsense and destroy themselves, this is the root cause, this is the Tower of Babel allegory, pretty much all evil and destructive forces can be attributed to this, this is a natural process, when the human ego outgrows reality, reality destroys it, attacks it, individually and collectively. It's no use to analyze endlessly the different kinds of specific nonsense as if they all have a different cause, no, they all have only one root cause which manifests itself differently, the cause remains the same.
>>25499187Define "culture".
>>25499507"The arts, beliefs, customs, institutions, and other products of human work and thought considered as a unit, especially with regard to a particular time or social group"
