I mean I've never played RPGs or card games and I understood it. The actual stuff about gaining points and levels is just a background element that's always happening rather than part of the plot. The first book just introduces the whole setup. The book series on the whole is about a guy who gets sucked into an alien Running Man type game programmed on the worst of internet pop culture, and he gradually becomes a terrorist. I'm not saying this means it's particularly good literature but I've gotten the feeling the typical /lit/ post about these books is someone who read the part of the first book and gave up because it wasn't Baudelaire.
