How many words a day are you doing?Do you feel like you should be doing more/less, or are you comfortable with your current daily pace?I'm trying to get a feel for where I stand. I force myself to write 2,000 words a day, but most of the time it's just garbage that I'm forcing out to reach that number.I wonder if I'd write better if I decided 1,000 or even 500 was my goal. Hemingway only did 500 a day and he's famous.
Half way through serialising my second novel now. Would be done by now if i didnt have to other boring shit

>>25501978Dialy averages dont mean anything, ive written probably a million words. The best way to work is in chapters. You can do a chapter or two a week probably if you're on point. But its completely different for different people. I have to warm up a bit by reading some fiction usually. If you're starting with nothing what you do is plot it out in chunks, what you want to happen, then go figure out how the characters do that. Write that up until you don't enjoy it then stop. Repeat until your chapter is finished. Then figure out the next chapter.

>>25501958Don't force yourself to write schlock to meet a daily word count. That works for many authors, but it also is advice given for/by authors who are focused on commercial success and genre fiction. If you're trying to write something meaningful, you need to at least have good bones. Editing makes good writing, but you're not going to edit a piece of shit into a pearl.I write with a comedic tone and it requires a level of "live" improvised energy. If I try to edit humor in later, it's terrible. So for me, hitting 500-1000 decent words is far more important than writing a lot.
>>25501958Maybe its not the quantity of words but the quality. Maybe you should reprioritize what you consider valuable as an aspiring writer
>>25501958I did 4000 the other night in a feverish schizo sprint. Then I did zero for a few days.
>>25502562>but you're not going to edit a piece of shit into a pearl. That's literally what editing is
>>25503907You're right, but he did specify "good bones" before. In that narrower sense, he's correct.
I try to read at least 500 words a day. This thread already got me close to my quota
>>25501958>How many words a day are you doing?I try to write in as few words as possible, unironically. For example, I wrote a proof that is only three statements
>>25504271Can I see the proof?
>>25504088Do you only read two threads and then call it a day
