It communicates absolutelly nothing about the book and the first thing that comes to mind is that it will be like a pseudo biography and go into needless detail about shit like the character's very early childhood and every single letter they ever wrote in their entire life.
It was a good book I rather enjoyed the steerforth scenes

I wouldn't say it felt like filler to me - there were definitely parts that were slower/less obviously relevant.. maybe characters I was less invested in, like Micawber. Didn't at all feel dragged out to me though, and it's the longest book I've ever read.
