Is it possible to get my wife into reading? She is addicted to scrolling TikTok and stuff like that. I observe her with disgust like Tony Soprano watching his son chat in his underwear.

The only thing she reads is some chapters in the book of Psalms every fn day but I don't even think she understands what it means (as most people who read the Bible without any context)
>>
My wife is African by the way so I hope it's possible to get her into reading stuff
>>
You know her bettter than any other anon on here: you should know how to influence her effectively and steer her away from le bible to literature. Her sub-specie is irrelevant, as long as she’s human she can be influenced and develop some understanding.

The Bible is good but by itself it's incomprehensible and not worth reading. You should read a ton of books about the Bible and its history and context if you wish to understand it. She's one of those many people who just read passages like mantras over and over and over without understanding anything at all. Just imho.

But I wish she would read a book instead of frying her brain with shitty and annoying videos for hours on end.
>>
Also I bought her a physical Bible but she doesn't like it because "it doesn't use the exact same wording she's used to". This proves the mantra thing I mentioned. The exact same wording doesn't really matter, after all it's a translation from Hebrew/Aramaic/Greek.

>The Bible is good but by itself it's incomprehensible and not worth reading.
Can't tell if atheist or Catholic/Orthodox
>>25504034
Introduce her to Michael Heiser's book on scholarly biblical analysis "The Unseen Realm". She will be fascinated
>>
>>25504034
Can I fuck your wife
>>
>>25504051
What translation does she usually read?
>>
>>25504490
I think she's full of it. I think I saw her reading online the same translation I bought her, see Pic attached
>>
>>25504164
Show me somebody who says he only reads the Bible, and has no use for commentaries and I'll show you someone who doesn't understand what he's reading
>>
>>25504481
Only if you marry her without a prenup and take good care of her. I would enjoy being a free man.
>>
>>25504164
>Michael Heiser's book on scholarly biblical analysis "The Unseen Realm".

Intradesting. Why this book specifically and this author specifically? Out of so many why did you recommend this one?
>>
>>25504592
I think you just hate your wife. I feel sorry for her.
>>
>>25504661
I don't think so. I just hate not being single with no responsibilities
>>
>>25504661
I think you should be a psychotherapist (invasive charlatan)
>>
>>25504599
It's reasonably in-depth while still remaining readable. The author is a scholar of ancient Hebrew and expounds on the explicitly supernatural worldview that most of the biblical authors likely had based on intertextual analysis of Ancient Near Eastern literature, including the Ugaritic texts

It's not the most up-to-date resource since the guy who wrote it died a few years ago but it's still pretty recent for the field

> addicted to scrolling TikTok
I feel genuinely ill after scrolling short form shit. It’s never what I want to see either. I don’t learn things, even when I try to get videos about something practical. I don’t understand why other people don’t get that sensation? Like genuinely feels like you got punched in the head and ate something moldy, plus you lost an hour of your day for nothing.
>>
>>25505962
I'm going to look into it for myself, she would never ever read stuff like that. Women generally don't give a damn about anything worthwhile.
>>
>>25505962
>Michael Heiser's book on scholarly biblical analysis "The Unseen Realm".

was looking for it and he also wrote a book SUPERNATURAL

is it the same topic?
>>
>>25504034
Short answer no. Long answer is also no.
>>
>>25504589
I mean I've read both the bible and moby dick and didn't need any outside interpretation for either.

Maybe you're just a dummy who needs to be told what to think?
>>
>>25504034
At best you’ll get her into booktok/romantasy shit, which isn’t really any better for you than scrolling tiktok. Serious readers are almost all men, it’s just what it is
>>
>>25506098
Unless you have been trained in ancient Jewish patterns of thinking, you're guaranteed to misunderstand the message of the Bible if you're reading it without any commentary

But I guess you're special and it doesn't apply to you.
>>
>>25506093
>>25506105

it's strange though that she does from the book of psalms every single day, but it's like a ritualistic practice, when I attempt to discuss and exegete the psalms in question with her I notice she is just waiting for me to stfu
>>
>>25504164
>Michael Heiser's book on scholarly biblical analysis "The Unseen Realm"

the fact he's an OT scholar makes me suspect he is not going to shove trinitarian talking points down my throat. Right?

I really don't want to buy a book which endorses the trinity
>>
>>25504164
>Michael Heiser's book on scholarly biblical analysis "The Unseen Realm"

whoah this guy is in my head
>>
>>25506090
Yes but that one's geared towards a more pop audience.
>>25506107
btw the guy you're replying to isn't me. I wish we had thread IDs.

I'll grant you that there are some parts of the bible that are difficult to interpret on your own but to say that it's incomprehensible is ridiculous.
>>

>Tyndale bible
muito baseado

I considered signing up to the theological library. You can't take out the books but you can read them in the library. Picture related from the library's website. Supposedly europe's largest theological library

that would mean I never have to buy and store another book and can read in peace and quiet without my wife's fucking tiktoks

but I dont know about it in practice, seems restrictive in terms of availability
>>
>>25506187
Nice library. If it's any consolation, the author encouraged interested readers to just pirate his books if they couldn't buy them or borrow them from a library
>>
>>25506206
Nice. I am apprehensive about spending money and storing objects. I considered using an e-ink tablet for pirated pdf books

>>favela dweller is a sex pest

I have no idea what this means, I don't speak moron.
>>
>>25506361
no, only macaco
>>
>>25504706
this guy gets it. It really boils down to this. Kinda bizarre how a relationship between two grown adults can feel like you're babysitting the woman to please her whims or else she'll make your life miserable. Modern relationships are just not that good of a deal for the guy.
>>
There's a reason why you're advised only to marry a woman you would just as easily be friends with if she were a man. Most men are too needy and jump at the sight of any woman willing to spread their legs for them, though. No real standards.
>inb4 it's impossible to be friends with a woman
Then don't get married.
>>
>>25506634
>Then don't get married.

OP here, I came to the same conclusion. Marriage was a mistake.
>>
>>25506661
If you're a christian, now that you are married it's your duty to love your wife just as Christ loves his church
