The first part of this is describing a very, very, very difficult engineering problem, and saying that it's too hard to be solved so nobody will do it. I doubt this; like I said, AI companies have very, very, very, very strong incentive to figure out how to make new data. They already do do this, just at small scales and in very narrow fields, so I don't think this is a barrier. (Consider chess engines; they're better than any human could ever be by playing billions of games against themselves and training on those results. Obviously a chess engine isn't exactly the same thing as a LLM, but the principle's the same -- neural network training on its own data.) The second is describing another very, very, very difficult engineering problem, and the same incentive thing applies here
