I'm going to invent a button that you can press every time you see a thread or post about women that will automatically kill the person who made said thread/post.

>Do you go to one?
yes.
>What’s it like?
its great. the people are intelligent and nice and we are currently reading "Exiles" by James Joyce.
>Have you made any friends?
indeed i have. 2 have become very good friends. i would recommend it for all the smug lonely neets on this board rather than make these /pol/ack threads.

/pol/ack threads can be enjoyable if you just assume the chud behind them is eternally malding and screeching. I enjoy those reminders from time to time.

>oh yeah? oh yeah? well I'm annoying! SO THERE!
Why are you people like this?
>>
I've been to book clubs set up by strangers and it isn't very fun and I didnt meet anyone. I tried to start some when I was in college and failed miserably. The best route is just having one with a small circle of literary friends and occasionally inviting a new person one of you knows.

Did, would not do again.
Organizer loved the sound of his own voice and should have just made a podcast about what he's been reading lately. But he genuinely cared about getting other people into reading (what he found interesting) and I admire that a lot.
The group was full of pseuds, but the worst of the bunch dropped out pretty quickly. They were all nice people though. I enjoyed myself.

Do I have the thing for you!

I would just really rather read the book
>>
I was in the Jeselnik book club earlier this year, but he recommended two woke books in a row, one of them being the worst novella I've ever read, and I decided I was better off picking my own books.
>>
Was talking to someone from my office @ a company BBQ recently and we were discussing networking & meeting people. I told him I like to read and he suggested I attend a book club. I didn't say it to his face but there's a good reason why I avoid book clubs like the plague. Instead I had to listen to him prattle on about the benefits of book clubs and I had to steer the convo in a direction that didn't include book clubs or literature...

I went to several books over the years
the best was in big city Atlanta that club attracted an eclectic mix good discussions about the book we picked 1 book for the next month etc

the worst were in Seattle area this place was like going back in time 30 years bunch of leftist kooks I tried 1 book club at a book store gross and 1 book club at peoples houses all females oops
>>
>>25509542
I've never seen anyone use the term 'eclectic mix' who wasn't a fag, so you probably are one, and so your praise of a book club you attended further reinforces my belief that book clubs are indeed for fags.
>>
>>25509571
no homos in the Atlanta group which was surprising but welcome

>>
>>25511438
There are book clubs where they don’t assign books, you just go whatever place they’re at and read the book of your choice

4/10. I like the idea but not unhinged or schizo enough. I don't buy that you buy it, and that is a problem. Actually, let me take that down to a 3/10.

Oh, I have to admit you've bested me here. It drives me crazy that people think that listening to an audiobook is the same as reading. -- Religious hypocrisy is bad but illiteracy is a crime.

Fuck off

The idea SOUNDS good, in the sense that you have people to talk with about books you read, but the trouble is the books that the club wants to read are probably not going to be the books you want to read. I gave up reading assignments when I graduated college. Reading that I do not want to do for its own sake is a chore, and I don't need more chores in my life.
>>
Most want to have sex with:
>Horror books girl
Most agree with her position:
>5 stars comes once a century girl
>>
>>25509001
Women's shoes tend to be incompatible with socks. And they take their shoes off inside the house because they are friends and are not animals.

>>25509053
Woman books take like two days to read, and that's if you work full-time and have other hobbies. They are basically pamphlets. You will not struggle to do the reading, while also reading books you actually like.
>>
>>25513855
It's an opportunity to meet women in real life, and all you need to do is be able to read a shitty book.
>>
>>25512826
"Listening" to books is much closer to the ancient experience of literature, where silent reading was exceedingly rare and remarkable. In fact the whole genre of classical letters we get from Cicero, etc comes from a tradition of receiving letters and then having them read out loud to your entire household. You can imagine how this shapes the form of classical literature, with a much tighter appreciation for sound and flow. Modern writing would benefit greatly from it.

It's often remarked upon, but good to remember that Augustine though Ambrose was the smartest man to ever live because he saw him (once) reading in his head, rather than reading out loud.

>>
>>25514249
Do you hate your wife? Why would you get married in the first place then? It's not something you just happen to stumble upon you know
>>
>>25514247
So sad that you think this. Definition of Literature: The body of WRITTEN works of a language, period, or culture
--- the age of literacy is coming to an end and you're part of the problem.
