Really the main reason is that when writing it, the real author, had been deep diving into sexual metaphors. The stalk is more important because it resembles the shaft. The "beans" as you call them, are less important. This is evident both in metaphors as seen in books like The Hobbit, and I'm real life, as seen by the look on girls eyes when I have my nuts exposed.
