What is your favorite trait in a literary protagonist? For me it's determination. I like a hero who is able to endure hardship and keep moving forward.

Anyone can be generous from a position of strength. A millionaire can help a beggar out and it's fine but it doesn't cost him much. But someone who thinks of other people even when he has plenty to worry about on his own account is something else again.e.g.The Sound And The Fury — Caddy works out that her perfume is upsetting Benjy and gives it to Dilsey even when she's at her wits' end with being pregnant and so on.Katina (Roald Dahl) — when the pilot takes the time to coax a laugh out of the little Greek girl.Great Expectations — Magwitch, having just been recaptured, claims that it was he who stole the pork pie, so as to get Pip off the hook.Titus Groan & Gormenghast — Fuschia is pretty miserable all the time (unsurprisingly, given she's suffering near-total emotional deprivation) but when she really flares up it's always on account of someone else — e.g. when Nanny Slagg is reduced to tears, or when Titus is imprisioned as punishment for leaving the castle.
