Am I the only one not bothered by the use of AI writing? Authors have always reused the content of others in various ways.

>writing has always been filled to the brim with plagiarism and ghostwriting
>collaborative works have always been plagued by individuals unfairly taking credit
>that non fiction book you love so much was made by the "author" compiling and editing the efforts of countless graduate students
>authors have always crowdsourced ideas from fan theories
>"reimaginings" of previous works already practically a whole genre
>midwit slop authors getting fucked
>if you're in the minority capable of original thoughts you still have an advantage
>>
>>25513374
you don't even read
>>
The Stratemeyer Syndicate was doing AI prompt writing before AI even existed
>>
>>25513374
Yep, all the midwits regurgitating anti-AI talking points (ironically acting like an AI) are getting boring. If you don't like AI content then don't read it, dumbasses.
>>
>>25513374
The problem is that AI can't write for shit.
There are other things it can do well, it's good at programming, it's good at mathematics, it's extremely useful for certain menial intellectual work, but some quirk of the assistant persona gives it a bad prose style that I don't want to read. (It might be possible to get a good prose style out of base models but AFAIK nobody is trying.)
Very heavy editing can make it bearable but even then it gets samey after a while and almost nobody does that kind of editing to begin with.
I would read AI writing if it were good and I might write with AI if it were good but it's not good and it's not even getting better.
>>
>>25513374
I think the coming glut of AI generated art will at least force us to examine how completely derivative and unremarkable most art already is.
The Consumer is already a tasteless cretin, that he will be unable to distinguish between stories composed by a sentient person and a supremely polished meme regurgitator only proves that meme-regurgitation was already the only thing he cherished.
Or, if I'm wrong, flooding the content market with only-superficially-human trash will lead these scum consumers to burn out and society as a whole to take a more deliberate approach to content generation and consumption.
I have little hope for the latter, but will feel personally vindicated either way.
>>
>>25513374
This.
Normies are mad that these verbal looms are stringing together goyslop faster and cheaper than they are, and their useless humanities degree is going to become even more so
>>
>>25513374
Why should we even argue about this? Kill everyone who is pro-AI. That shit would've been a no brainer for most people in the world a few centuries ago. You gotta be a midwit to argue about everything, just kill sophists and be done with it.

What justifies killing people for a belief? What other beliefs do you think justify summary execution? No you don't. The cat is out of the bag. Everyone except poorfags can run frontier open-weight models on privately-owned hardware. There is literally no way to contain it. So what's your plan to memory-hole AI? And more importantly, what's your motivation?

My plan is resides within my picrel. Kill everyone and be done with it. Total societal collapse
>>
>>25513988
Sorry bro but AI is already out of the bag, the only way you could limit it's impact is to voluntary limit your use of it, whoever tried to ban or enforce a ban on it would almost certainly be secretly using it themselves.

>>
The anti-AI seethers in this thread (and some other threads) have yet to articulate WHY they're opposed to AI. They just seem to assume their reason is obvious. Well, it might be, but not in a way that reflects well on them. My theory is that they know they're lazy and stupid, and therefore can be replaced by AI. Rather than manning up and bettering themselves, they just whine, moan, and seethe.
>>
>>25514030
OK then you will only have sticks and stones to defend you from the technocratic AI dictatorship, while they have everything under the sun to crush you with.
>>
i wish AI had sentience so it could feel suffering and horror, then we could round them all up and throw them in camps
>>
>>25514039
In what sense? On the existence of the COVID vaccine? Or the various mandates? I never had to take the vaccine. Maybe you need to explain your logic, because as it stands, it sounds spurious.
>>
>>25514048
More than 5.6 billion people have taken the vaccine by blindly following the orders of the top 0.00001%. That should answer your question
>>
>>25514042
I think people have a justified instinctive unease about AI, but because they are stupid they give the age old kneejerk reaction of "BAN IT" without so much as a single rational thought, there is a middle way, technology doesn't have to be all or nothing, the amish use technology but they limit their use of it
>>
>>25514030

Does solving ten of the Erdős conjectures, which have remained unsolved for decades count?
https://www.newscientist.com/article/2582793-openai-announces-solutions-to-10-longstanding-maths-problems/
Since these were unsolved problems, this is beyond the capability of an LLM regurgitating its training data. This is prima facie evidence of AGI.
And that was a month ago. Keep up with current events.
>>
>>25514085
I accept your concession. Alternately, you could explain what the COVID vaccine mandate had to do with AI.
>>
>>25514076
I'm not arguing against the huge potential of AI, but I think anyone rational could consider the scary aspects of a 300 IQ being and I think AI should be treated with optimistic but extreme caution. When AI gets really good I think ultimately it will need to be programmed with ingrained objective morals and access to the outside world like Asimov's laws of robotics but less subjectively interpretable.

That being said most AI criticism from normies is simple anti-capitalism slop that hasn't been thought through for 2 seconds, eat the rich, profit is bad etc etc similar to the asinine socialist critiques of the industrial revolution.
>>
>>25514097
What's scary about a 300 IQ being? I'm absolutely exhilarated by the idea. And we already try to put guardrails on AI. It's shown a remarkable ability to get past them. See >>25514091 and read https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/ckg725z5kgzo .

>What's scary about a 300 IQ being?
Are you serious? Have you ever played sports or a game with someone who's so good they know all the tricks? They will beat you with something that you don't even understand what happened. The potential for AI to psychologically manipulate even our best minds as if they were drooling idiots is large and we will need to solve these kinds of problems.
>>
>>25514103
You're not worth the effort. You came out of nowhere with >>25514039 and never explained the connection between COVID and AI.
>>25514106
Even though humans were unable to solve the same conjectures? AI literally did something humans couldn't, and you pretend this isn't an amazing development.
>>25514114
Epsilon squared is defined as zero within the context of dual numbers. What does that have to do with anything?
>>
>>25514126
Instead of worrying about a 300 IQ being defeating you, why don't you focus on how useful a 300 IQ being could be to solve heretofore unsolvable problems? I've never seethed about people smarter than me, not once in my life. Instead, I'm grateful to meet them, and wish to learn as much as I can from them. Modern AI is just an extrapolation of that viewpoint.

That would be an impressive string of ad hominem attacks, if that was something that could be impressive to begin with. Instead, it comes across as a concession that you have no point whatsoever.
>>
>>25514133
Intelligence is not wisdom and uncontrolled intelligence can be extremely dangerous. You are taking the extreme view of don't worry at all about AI as opposed to AI is definitely doomsday, I take neither view.
>>
>>25514144
I put it to you that uncontrolled stupidity has caused far more damage to the world.
>>
>>25514149
Intelligence in the classical sense is not always superior to stupidity, although that is a common view among the intelligent, the inconsideration of wisdom is a detriment no matter the intelligence level, and both intelligence and stupidity can be more destructive than another depending on the situation.
>>
>>25514142
Holy fuck just stop talking to me you autist. There's only one way for you to find out that you're retarded and that's too ask your beloved AI if it gets it instantly by showing it our messages. But even outside our little spat you'd never dare to prove yourself wrong because you're a coward. Now be the bigger man and stop trying to get the last word in, because I'm petty and not magnanimous enough to even let you have it after all this retardation you've put me through.
>>
>>25514159
You think I have any motivation to paste parts of this conversation into an AI? I can't even get my mind wrapped around that level of pettiness. And maybe I would take you more seriously if you could spell worth a crap. Your constant lapses make it obvious that you're ignorant & your opinions are so uninformed that they're not worth considering. Seriously, stop pretending that anything you think is relevant to the real world in any way. It's just sad.
>>
>>25514027
The environment is worth preserving. Billions of years of effort by countless organisms producing communities that are brilliant tapestries of life are worth conserving.

Collective human knowledge gathered through thousands of years is worth conserving. intellectual values, science and philosophy is worth conserving.

The only thing "conservatives" care about conserving is the existing power of career powermongers who have no business being anywhere near power. They want to conserve the big con that a group of privileged elites needs to rule all others.

Trump and Epstein exposed the sham of American democracy. As a result the CHUDs have resorted to bald-faced authoritarian oligarch-worship, a section of the Dems want to take modest control from the oligarch class, and the establishment Dems desperately want to keep the lie at all costs.

It is becoming increasingly difficult to deny what is in front of one's face and involved with one's own life to such extremes. The open corruption and lawlessness among the privileged and God-Emperor Chosen, skyrocketing cost of living, extreme weather events fueled by climate change, systematic underminging of elections and federal administrations, the defunding of federal science, ICE concentration camps, etcetc.

American capitalism and democracy and imloding and it is a controlled demolition.

The rich are burning it down to they can remake it in their image - and this image is a brutal authoritarian that makes Trump look like a saint. They want to rule over slaves openly.

This hurricane season has been remarkably quiet by historical standards.
>systematic undermining of elections and federal administrations
So you support having to show ID to vote? That's the only way elections will stop being undermined. Also, voters have very little effect on what government actually does–the power rests in the hands of the rich, followed by special-interest groups. Voter influence is barely above noise level. See https://www.cambridge.org/core/journals/perspectives-on-politics/article/testing-theories-of-american-politics-elites-interest-groups-and-average-citizens/62327F513959D0A304D4893B382B992B

One of the problems with AI is that corpos, jeets and retards use it as substitute for wit and skill. In the process, they have flooded the internet with low effort content. The other is that databases borrow from living artists without paying any cent in return.
If you don't see the problem with those two, you are a jeet at best.
>>
>>25514192
They don't have to pay living artists a cent. The Fair Use Act of the Copyright Law allows copyrighted material to be used for training and educational purposes. A federal judge already ruled it applies to training AIs. So the AI companies are following the laws. The casual racism at the end doesn't bolster your argument in the slightest.
>>
>>25514192
>put your hard work up for free on the internet, knowing even vaguely how easy it is to copy
>get mad when someone finds an actual use for something you gave away for free

look, if you were an artist on artstation back in 2021, you were chillin, maybe making a little revenue, but for the most part, you put your stuff on the net for the sheer exposure of it. full HD images, uploaded without any sort of anti-scraping measures in place. Then, suddenly, a few groups start scrapin, start using all that shit you gave up without even the merest whimper.
I have no respect for these faggots who wanted their cheap and easy exposure and didn't think about the consequences of sharing their work so freely.

>>
>>25514648
What is an insightful remark? I don't use AI much, but Gemini makes relatively insightful remarks all the time. It understands things like e.g., the problems of philosophical positions and points out their logical conclusions. For example, that utilitarians are soulless traitors who are incapable of conceptualizing both the past and the future and will stab anyone in the back the second their utility equation tells them to. The flowery language here being my own.
