I regret downloading such books on my new 2000 euro new computer. Might be compromised now by intelligence agencies, hackers and so on.In retrospect I should have used a dedicated cheap computer just for downloading the books and printing them.

>>25514873download off project gutenberg, archived.org or google books. gutenberg will have almost everything that's in public domain, and they'll have it in .epub format, which means very small file size and high degree of adjustability. the other sites will probably only offer .pdfs, which are larger files, tend not the offer much adjustability, and most e-readers will lag a bit when you turn the pages.read them off your e-reader. the e-ink screen is much less straining on the eyes. i wouldn't want to got through the bother of printing a whole book.i recently paid 70 dollars for a two volume re-print of a book. it's a nice copy, but i only did it so i could share it with my mother. i'd be deep in debt if i did that every time i wanted to read a book that was out of print. the e-reader is a huge money saver to anyone who reads regularly. i have more than 500 books on mine and i didn't pay for any of them (even though they aren't all in the public domain).

I would never use the built in PDF reader in the web browser even if you can toggle JS support in the browser, because there will surely be exploits that bypass or re-enable those settings.

What I would actually recommend is checking to see whether the plain text generated by OCR is good before messing around with .PDF and if it's readable and not garbled then copy and paste it into a basic text editor and save it as txt. From there you can change the size and shape of the text and it won't execute any javascript behind your back assuming your text editor isn't a sneaky llm communicating with demonic stealth prompts under your nose such as Microsoft Windows 11 Notepad Satan Edition. But even better if you can get hand-edited plaintext which is the actual reason Project Gutenberg and Standard Ebooks are the first place to look than archive . org.
