Im overwhelemed at Barnes and Noble. Where to start with new fiction? I havent read anything past George Saunders. My reading and writing halted about 15 years ago. My latest was another reread of Pale Fire

It's a total tone shift from Pale Fire, but it's short, funny, wry, uncomfortable -- "Problems" by Jade Sharma. Just finished it so I'm thinking about it. Novella in fragments, about a misanthropic fat brown woman (as she describes herself) who's cheating on her husband while hiding her heroin addiction. Refuses self-pity, which is always good. The main character Maya hates herself and knows she should. Writer OD'd shortly after the book came out, sadly
