The first few chapters of this book is comedic gold. However I don't feel like finishing it. Not enough aura with the book.

I was good with like the first 14, then dropped it.Maybe Ill go back to it, idk, I think I got its schtick. The writer is both someone who really likes romances but also can see the absurdity in them as well. Going between honest appreciation of romantic notions and making them silly with excess. occasional side musing on the nature of love, purpose, death etc.
It definitely was a product of its time. The absurdity of the Vietnam war brought to life in a story that takes place during WWII.

Its like a series of "that's funny once" vignettes that all get repeated 3 or 4 times, eg the black market mess hall officer, Yossarians rendezvous with the prosties, the guy who screams in his sleep all the time. I regret finishing it and not starting a different novel after I'd met the whole cast of chatacters.
