You know what? I'm about to say it. Russia has the most overrated literature of any country.

Russian lit stagnated as a result of Stalin being a lowbrow retard who preferred hunting and billiards and all of his mandates restricted Russian writers from focusing on the work they really wanted to do and then Russia just started copying whatever we (Americans) did and lost their identity

we’ll probably get some war memoirs at least,
although maybe not, if there won’t be enough literary types who made it through the war, or anything actually meaningful will be censored, or perhaps it’ll be tinged by the shitty lowbrow zeitgeist.

Isn't it more likely that the translators were the ones who were actually the great writers?

Eugene Vodolazkin is good, the heart of Russian literature still beats.

It's not even that Russian literature is bad. It isn't, in fact it's quite good. But it's so absurdly overhyped by legions of tedious midwits trumpeting C&P as the greatest psychological novel ever wrotten that it would be impossible for it not to be overrated.

I only read half of it and I found it quite average. The psychological aspect isn't particularly outstanding. Hell, the underground was a better book for that specifically which I also didn't finish.
>>
>>25550510
What's so good about that book?

I always read russian books in Portuguese, and the books were fire too.
This is a cope.

I also read Lolita in Portuguese because I don't consider Nabokov American. And the book was first published in french too...

It's just the French but more depressed (kinda like Russian culture in general)

But England exists
>>
>>25549820
Eeeeeh I wouldn't say that.
I'd say more that the russian authors that are promoted as being the best are overrated.
>>
>>25549820
How much of it have you actually read?
>>
>>25551213

>>
>>25551208
i was gonna say this. it's also hilarious
>>
>>25549820
It's not, but it has two of the most overrated authors of any country; Dostojevski and Tolstoi.
>>
>>25549820
Eh it’s more interesting to mote that the entirety of “russian literature” is a span of like 50 years, before and after which there is literally nothing but peasant scribbles about smearing shit in your own face.
When some retard goes on about russian literature ask them for something written in the last 80 years.
>>
>>25549837
Stalin was not a lowbrow retard and Russian lit did not stagnate under him - he knew that 99% of his court authors were apparatchik trash, and that he must keep true auteurs oppressed in order to keep them productive. Just check what he wrote on Bulgakov, Pasternak or Mandelstam. It was the Thaw era and it's lack of oppression that lead to stagnation of Soviet lit - it became not just possible but trivial to attain a safe, moderately bougie life by being an institutional slopper. Collapse of the USSR served to revitalize Russian lit to a degree, by forcing a good number of authors back into the proper creative context of eating shit.
