I was gonna make a separate thread about this until I saw that thread, but I guess I’ll just be honest here. I’m a young zoomer (early 20s) and it’s just really hard not to feel demoralized about everything happening in the world. I struggle to find a job fresh out of college; everyone is telling me that all jobs will be replaced by AI in a few years and apparently there’s no point in developing any interests or skills because they’ll all be automated. If they aren’t saying this then they’re saying AI will kill all humans and create a mass extinction event. And all of this is happening in the backdrop of the world economy hitting a crisis point, escalating tensions via huge wars, global institutions totally losing legitimacy, etc. It’s like, what is a person my age even supposed to do anymore? We are being told by our leaders that we’re obsolete. They’re telling young men like me that there won’t be any future worth fighting for because all cultures will collapse into illiterate, automated regurgitation or outright chaos. Open the internet and it’s all just constant demoralization too. I feel like everyone is collectively losing their minds. Any sort of wisdom or guidance from our elders is missing, the ruling class has gone off the deep end in admitting their contempt for the masses. I really don’t know what I’m supposed to do with my life anymore. Never before have I felt so much like I’m at the “end of history” as they say. I lose the will to even read and write these days. I just imagine in the future all these great authors will be forgotten and no one will ever read what I have to say because no one will read at all.
