Why do so called thinkers always try to reduce social and economic phenomena to the result of a few factors?

The book Why Nations Fail argues that economic development is primarily driven by institutions. I agree that institutions are an important factor in development, but I think it is retarded to deny or ignore other factors such as culture, race, religion, geography, etc.

It’s the same thing with Marxists: they reduce every historical phenomenon to mere class struggle while ignoring or denying factors such as race, religion, culture, geography, or even the role of great man in history.

Because if you don't accept the notion that everything is input -> output, then you have to accept the notion that everything is total chaos and that is
1) A very difficult condition to get anything done under
2) Psychologically worrying

Marxism does not deny the existence of religious ideology (such as Puritanism during the English Civil War, or Islamic jurisprudence in the Caliphate) and how it can direct the immediate passions of men. But that religious ideology is itself an ideological reflection of deep, underlying shifts in the property relations and class contradictions of that society, what is more interesting is how religion as a tool is used to cope with and manipulate these environmental factors. Marxism has always recognized that geography influenced human development. However, geography does not change across five centuries, yet the society inhabiting that geography changes radically. The geography of the British Isles was essentially the same in the year 1200 as it was in 1850. But in 1200, it supported an agrarian feudal economy organized around serfdom and the manorial estate, in 1850, the same island was the global workshop of industrial capitalism, dominated by steam power and the industrial proletariat. As for race, race is a pseudo-science. It's a dialectial resolution of this contradiction - how could a bourgeois class claiming the "universal rights of man" subject millions of human beings to forced labor? By creating a hierarchy and caste system built upon an ideological construct manufactured relatively late in human history by merchant capital and the colonial bourgeoisie. Placing primacy on race is an unmistakable fingerprint of the fascist or bourgeoise liberal mind, which perpetually seeks to biologicalize history.

Regarding the Great Man Theory, Marxism answered this definitively through the work of Georgi Plekhanov in his 1898 treatise, On the Role of the Individual in History. An individual can leave an imprint on historical events, but only to the extent that they express the objective needs of a rising or falling social class. Napoleon Bonaparte was an exceptionally talented artillery officer and military administrator. But Napoleon did not "create" modern French history through the sheer force of his will. He was propelled to state power because the French revolutionary bourgeoisie, having executed the king and purged the Jacobins, desperately required a centralized, military sword to stabilize bourgeois property relations domestically and defend French markets against the feudal coalitions of Europe. Had Napoleon been killed by an errant cannonball at the siege of Toulon in 1793, the objective historical demand of the French bourgeoisie would not have evaporated as another military figure (a Moreau, a Bernadotte, or a Hoche) would have filled the structural vacancy.

Marxism remains the most cohesive, coherent, and structurally sound analytical and epistemological lens for understanding historical development. It reconciles the contradictions of societal injustices and inequalities, irrationalities, and materialist science that allows us to navigate that complexity without drowning in idealist confusion.

It's almost a rule of nature that only a handful of things drive dynamics, or communicate the majority of significant information. Everything else just fine tunes or provides resolution. I mean humans only have five or so basic needs.
>>
>>25555575
When you have an ideology this elastic it doesn't mean anything. You're just stacking rationalization upon rationalization to make an unfalsifiable mess. Complete pseudoscience.

Again, Marxist historians make everything subordinate to class and its antiquated by the fact that class itself too nebulous of a term nowadays to mean anything. Class of what exactly? According to what culture? Someone can be upper class according to the standards of their own culture but much lower according to another.

Marxists dismiss the power of religion to their peril. A Marxist would predict that a Muslim worker would ally with non-Muslim workers in class struggle. In reality, Muslim workers invariably ally with Muslim bourgeoise against non-Muslims (as seen in Indonesia, Pakistan, etc.). Perhaps you can label this false consciousness, but when it is so overwhelmingly powerful it deserves to be the first consideration in political analysis.

As an elder "thinker" I do try to stress the complexity of things and steer them to fuller pictures.

The world's problems do all stem from the social superstructure of state-capitalism. A relic of the past that needs to be thrown off us before it kills us. This isn't reductionist.

>It’s the same thing with Marxists
Not to defend Marxist that much, but economies don't develop without labor. Ever. "Institutions, culture, race, religion, and geography" may play a part, but it don't happen without labor.
And Marxists do pay attention to materialist things like geography etc. and modern Marxists are all about the "global south" and how the revolution is more likely there (cuz class divisions are too weird in the global north), so race.

>>
>>25556265
To make the world as un-statist as we can make it would solve a great many problems.
But there are some who believe that is all we should do. In this case we have capitalists running around much like they do now, but without governments. Well new city-states and fiefdoms would arise with these guys ruling it (or hiring middle management to do it more likely) and now we have a state by another name and some calling for a strongman to overthrow the merchant/oligarch and we're back to where we started.
So BOTH need to go. So we must question not just authority in govt. but value in paper, cryptoids or gold-backed money.
Instead but authority and value back into ourselves.

As far as I know communists think capitalism will collapse in 2050 when China transitions to socialism
>>
>>25556272
>So why hasn't the capitalist system collapsed yet.
It collapsed in 2020, before that it collapsed in 2008/09, before that was a couple of little collapses, there was on in the early 80s, the early 70s... A huge one in 1929. Capitalism fails every time it is tried. It just doesn't work.

Not to defend the Federal Reserve (a private bank) but there were crashes before its invention.
(I do think it's odd how libertarians squawk about the Fed but not a peep about the foreign globalist bankers post Bretton Wood)
So you think having no govt would have stopped credit bubbles caused by the private sphere, housing loan scam bubbles, etc. Those bubble blowers asked for govt. Capitalists ask for this setup. They pay govt officials, they use their capital to corrupt govt. I'm not trying to paint govt as good guys here, I'm just saying there a symbiosis between them.
I posted this >>25556274
I know what happened after the '29 crash. Roosevelt did them all a favor by taxing them 95% off the top. And they killed him for it and put the fascist CIA in control so that would never happen again. No, fuck govt intervention, but fuck your mayor Musk or whatever. I've read enough history to know both those paths lead down the same way.

Because compression into key factors is a key part of understanding something and the other side of academia that just goes “erm oh geez lots of factors are involved haha I guess we just can’t know” is similarly deadended.
>>
>>25556819
> How can you be so sure.
It’s an axiomatic belief and there’s no way to reality test it because you can’t run history again. Marxists will handwave to “trends and forces” and just assert every human is a replaceable cog. How could they possibly back it up with anything?

Just because humans have been trying to do something doesn’t mean it’s necessarily true. They should try searching for the truth.

This is not. You can't say that as if it were an absolute certainty. The vacancy might not have been filled, or it might have been filled by someone not competent enough to carry out that role, and the revolutionary bourgeoisie might have simply collapsed and been overrun by Prussia and Austria.
