I am literally in SHAMBLES at the ending. I can't believe how those damned Galileans stabbed the Augustus in the back, and how his own personal guard who handled that spear could feel so proud and pious at the deed, while at the same time claiming that he really admired Julian and writing a moving panegyric to him after his death. Truly, the mental gymnastics the "lambs" of the Nazarene go through are unbelievable. May Mithras grant him peace, the man who dared stand up to a man-made faith that appropriated the national god of jews and turned him into some sort of Universal God even though he retains the abhorrent characteristics of the people from whom they stole him. It will take me a while to recover from this book.

Real shame that Kubrick was planing on making a Napoleon movie, only to be undercut with some Hollywood schlock. Instead he could have adapted Vidal's Julian.

It is pretty great.
>>25556194
Kubrick stuck to adapting slop, gave him more freedom with interpretation.
>>
>literal faggot sodomite writes a book about the "based" pagan emperor trying to hold back the "evil" Christians

Utterly unsurprising. And I'm supposed to be impressed with Vidal?
>>
>>25556258
That is not what it is about.

>Knows nothing about the author
>Knows nothing about the emperor
>Didn't read the book
>Certainly is in the dark concerning Christian Christian history. They all are.
Run along, child.

If it makes you feel better, the book you read was highly fictionalized. The real Julian was more like a neopagan than a real pagan, he was much more interested in the cool philosophical mystery cults of Athens than he was in either the state religion of the Italian senatorial class or the rustic household gods of the common peasants, and his ultimate goal was to somehow bind all of these disparate cults together into a unified church to rival the Christian one, a project which was obviously doomed to fail and which obviously didn't stem from any kind of sincere belief in the essentially transactional religion of legitimate pagans. He was basically the ancient equivalent of Ignatius J. Reilly except that he got his hands on real power, an unserious psued who put aesthetics and ego above all.
More importantly, he was definitely killed by Persians on the battlefield. There is not a single serious historian who blames his death on friendly fire. There simply was no betrayal, that's pure fanfiction.
>>
If he was alive today he would be one of those Neopagans that think “The Lord of the Rings” and the Crusades were spiritually Pagan. He would probably dress up as Gandalf.

Probably the best historical novel alongside Memoirs of Hadrian.

Agreed.

>He would probably dress up as Gandalf.
And be as gay as Ian McKellen

Sounds like you got filtered

I was reading about Hadrian recently and he was a great emperor too, he smushed Jerusalem and forbid jews from entering until the muslims conquered it centuries later and they're the ones who had to give it back to the jews. Now the jews are genociding the descendants of those muslims lol.

This threat was and is the only reason to ever be a Christian, guess what I don't believe in it and it was never real. You know why? Because Christianity comes from Judaism and we all see what the Jews are. I can discount it without offence to God, or even Jesus far as I'm concerned.
>>
>>25559752
wrong, Rabbinic Judaism of today is different than Old Testament Judaisism which Christianity superseded.

You're overestimating how little fucks anyone gives about the distinction, that's assuming you're correct which you may very well not be considering the OT was made up, what we know about Jesus comes from Saul, etc.
>>
>>25559795
>You're overestimating how little fucks anyone gives about the truth
true, 'tis a sad state of the world
>>
oh this guys gay?
yeah I don't read books by gays, jews, or minorities.
