Why did so many western authors and philosophers fail to understand Buddhism so badly
>>25558374Idk bro it's a comfy book so I don't really gaf
>>25558374Just protestants projecting being white and having a soul onto bug men who ostensibly do not and are unbothered by the concept
From what I can gather, Buddhism is hard for even Buddhists to understand. Because the Pali Canon is written in.. Pali. And nobody speaks it. So you need to get a westerner to go learn Pali and then translate the suttas to English. But there's like 6 billion of them plus it seems different translators do quirky things. If you go on sutta central they've translated a lot of them. I follow this guy bikkhu sujato who seems to do a lot of the translations. Also once you really read the suttas the whole thing kind of collapses and you see its basically a retarded Indian religion that believes in heaven and hell and ghosts and devils and psychic powers and rain gods and etc etc. It's not really that interesting.
>>25558400I read the Lankavatara sutra and didn't know what the fuck was going on lol
>>25558374I've never gotten a clear answer out of Buddhists (western and actual) on whether or not the self reincarnates or if it is only karma that persists beyond death
>>25558391This is white ethnonarcissism at its finest (i.e most ugly)
>>25558374They see it as a noble savage exotic wisdom thing
>>25558400>a retarded Indian religionDon't Hindus believe buddah is a reincarnation of vishnu who exists entirely to sway believers into an ere5ic cult and stay trapped into the cycle of reincarnation?
>>25558423Well that's Herman Hesse for you. You can learn more about German protestantism than about actual buddism from siddartha

(Please don't ask me what "sect" or whatever the fuck they were because I don't know and they probably don't either)
