Be honest, those of you who read and survived the important works of Aristotle, was it worth the effort?
>>25564555>tripsChecked>was it worth the effortYes, but you have to go into it with good editions and secondary literature.
>>25564555Worth it? What would 'worth it' look like to you?
>>25564555I refuse to believe that anyone who didn't spend a year plus reading this didn't just glaze their eyes over for 99% of it.
>>25564593What did you get out of it? I can feel it reshaping my brain sometimes but it's painful>>25564598A relatively decent time-to-knowledge ratio. I don't want to spend 10 hours reading only to obtain miniscule factoids.
I have to read Nicomachean Ethics in chunks, even when he's just describing the mean and extremes of his virtues. Forget his entire works.
I'm actually reading Aristotle right now, I read a secondary on him and I finished today the Categories. To be honest, I didn't really understand the point of this work so much and the first/second essence distinction was quite confusing and apparently contradicts the Metaphysics?I'm reading Aristotle in this order: Categories -> Nicomachean Ethics -> On Poetics -> On the Soul -> Physics -> Metaphysics. I'm not really interested in his logical works much, so if I'll be able to, I'll stop my reading of Aristotle at the Metaphysics
>>25564615You’d reshape your brain 1000x more and learn more new perspective by dropping a $20 acid tab in your mouth right now.But nah you wont do it, because for majority of people here reading is about chasing the feeling of progress or achievement, even a competition of sorts. If you’re reading it to be allowed to say you’re read it and want people to think wow this guy reads, then just read it. There are no shortcuts to this very questinable clout. But reading old and useless shit like that has nothing to do with knowledge.
