🎉 Happy Birthday 4chan! 🎉

I’m a young zoomer (early 20s) interested in literature, and it’s really hard not to feel demoralized about the future.

It’s like, what is a person my age even supposed to do anymore? Because of AI, we are being told by our leaders that we’re obsolete. They’re telling young men like me that there won’t be any future worth fighting for because all cultures will collapse into illiterate, automated regurgitation or outright chaos. Open the internet and it’s all just constant demoralization too. I feel like everyone is collectively losing their minds. Any sort of wisdom or guidance from our elders is missing, the ruling class has gone off the deep end in admitting their contempt for the masses and outright worship for machines. I really don’t know what I’m supposed to do with my life anymore. I struggle to find a job fresh out of college; everyone is telling me that all jobs will be replaced by AI in a few years and apparently there’s no point in developing any interests or skills because they’ll all be automated. If they aren’t saying this then they’re saying AI will kill all humans and create a mass extinction event. And all of this is happening in the backdrop of the world economy hitting a crisis point, escalating tensions via huge wars, global institutions totally losing legitimacy, etc. It is not a coincidence that /lit/ itself severely declined in activity once the first AI models were released.

Never before have I felt so much like I’m at the “end of history” as they say. I lose the will to even read and write these days. It has gotten to the point where I look at any kind of art or media nowadays, and I feel a sting of pain in my heart followed by the thought of "no one will care about any of this in 10 years." I just imagine in the future all these great authors will be forgotten and therefore there's no chance anyone will ever read what I have to say because no one will read at all, so why bother?

It is not a failure of industrial society that we're regressing back into an illiterate wasteland full of dumb peasants and zero social mobility. It's the inevitable outcome of it. Two world wars were fought to prevent this from happening, virtually every thinker pre-WW2 was mortified by the thought of their societies reaching the point that we're in now -- how could we make so much progress in our civilization just to let it wither away, just to sit motionless as our nations literally die and our people replaced? Why squander everything we've gained? Well that's exactly what we're doing right now.

Don't read, enjoy hobbies, go outside or do anything fun, creative and interesting, instead you should post inane gibberish on 4chan
Yeah that'll work

Noted.

You're being needlessly obtuse to OP. He said he can't bring himself to read BECAUSE of his demoralization, and here you go ridiculing him further.
Shame on you.

OP, there really isn't an answer to what you're asking for anymore, I'd say read anyway because some literature might bring you joy. Or not. All upto you.
These are interesting times, and I don't suppose a lot of us will make it out alright either unfortunately. Carry on anyway, eh?

Have you tried not being a faggot?
