What color is your Nobel for Literature?

I keep mine on my fireplace.
>>
Well it's not brooding and self important male archetype #46 (knausy) so that's already a win.
>>
>>25576944
It's outrageous that she's neither black nor disabled nor a tranny nor lesbian nor muslim.
>>
>>25576909
Not reading a canadian granny. Simple as.
>>
The only good female authors are Emily Brontë and Flannery O'Connor, and they're both dead.
>>
>>25576969
Virginia Woolf
Elena Ferrante
Clarice Lispector
Amy Hempel

>inb4 what about Tartt, Atwood, Clarke?
All shit.
>>
>>25576969
Great taste on two very Christian authors
>>
>>25576972
Elena Ferrante is worth reading if you are a dude? Her stuff is mostly about female friendship
>>
>>25576978
Definitely worth it. The Napolitan saga is her best work. She talks about everything, from friendship to politics to love, sex, children, etc. Lots of little insights and nice sentences.

beeeeeeeeeeeeeeee-
>>

Ferrante is a man lol
>>
Based, finally
>>
>>25577057
No, that's an absurd theory that stops making sense as soon as you read her books. She's unmistakably female (in that she holds mysandrist stereotypes even when she's trying not to).
>>
>>25576909
She should keep it in her fireplace.
>>
>>25576969

Andrews mogs all of those
>>
Better luck next year Bill.
>>
>>25576969
Marilyn Robinson is still alive.
>>
This likely means Atwood isn't getting it.

Next year China? Yu Hua or Yan Lianke, maybe? Australia, Murnane? Latin America, Vita-Matas?
>>
>>25577252
Trooned out for nothing but to be loved by redditors and jewtubers
>>
>>25577286
>Latin America, Vita-Matas
You sure about that?
>>
>>25576969
Anne Carson isnt really much of an author. She’s remembered for her translations of Sappho.
>>
>>25577294
*Vila-Matas. Just throwing some names around.
>>
I have a special place in my heart for Anne Carson because A-thanat’ Aphrodita/ Deathless Aphrodite is the first Greek language poem I translated to English by reading her translation. Sappho is a lyrical poet and also her works are straightforward enough as an entryway to Greek newbies.
>>
>>25577290
Cool story bro.
>>25577286
Murnane seems interesting. First I heard of him was when he did his Paris Review interview. Where do you start with him tho? The Plains, Tamarisk Row?

Good interview - https://archive.ph/lof6f
>>
>>25577298
BUT HE'S NOT SOUTH AMERICAN YOU FUCKING RETARD!!11111!!!!!!!!!!
>>
>>25576909
I don't care much about the nobel and they should seriously stop awarding them to anglo authors, but she clearly deserves the recognition.
>>
>>25577286
After Carson and Krasznahorkai won, the list of decent living authors is becoming smaller and smaller. They will have to end up giving it to a hack like Murakami, Pynchon or Knausgård. It's not like they have awarded midslop in the past in any case.
>>
>>25577427
What's wrong with Knausgard?

I really like Murakami but I can see why elitist snobs might look down on him.
>>
>>25577456
Autofiction is incredibly trite by now and Knausgard doesn't even give it an interesting spin. His life isn't even that interesting nor he has a radical perspective of things. It's just well written gossip for educated people.
>>
>>25577499
What about the Morning Star series?

That seems like the most interest stuff he's written.

>It's just well written gossip for educated people.
I mean much of classical literature can be described that way
>>
>>25577499
>Autofiction is incredibly trite by now and Knausgard doesn't even give it an interesting spin. His life isn't even that interesting nor he has a radical perspective of things
Have you read him? Be honest. He simultaneously invented and surpassed a new style of writing and he's basically the only living author who can make that claim
>>
>>25577503
>What about the Morning Star series?
Haven't read it. Truthfully it does sound interesting. May give it a read. Thanks.

>I mean much of classical literature can be described that way
I disagree on this. Taking from real life has always been part of great literature, but the appeal of it has rarely been the gossip. Celine is brilliant because his writing, experiences and insights are brilliant and his work would be just as good if were entirely fictional. Aufiction instead isn't that much about the literature itself but about developing parasocial relationships with the people in it and getting a morbid pleasure from seeing their private lives aired to the world. Some writers can do brilliant things with it though, like Roth, who on merits alone absolutely deserved a Nobel prize, although he was never going to get it. But Knausgard isn't Roth. He isn't using autifiction as an ingredient to do something else, more interesting, with it. He just writes very compelling autofiction.
>>
>>25577407
Oops, stupid mistake on my part.
>>
>>25577536
Topkek
>>
>>25576909
can anybody give an informed and balanced rundown on Carson's books?
>>25577536
what did he invent exactly?
>>
>>25576909
I've never read anything by Carson, so maybe I'm missing out, but I can't believe other year went by where they didn't give a Nobel to Pynchon.
>>
>>25576909
The prize has lost much of its prestige. Still, the laureate is not deserving. Yet, the jury's choice was predictable.
>>
>>25577536
hes a fake author, much like his pr photos where its mandatory to look gloomy with a cigarette and a leather jacket because thats just what an author is supposed to look like at all times. he appeals to folks who consider themselves too good to watch Big Brother, fuck him and fuck autofiction, the whole whore of it
>>
>>25577833
>the laureate is not deserving
Of all the candidates, it's hard to think in a better choice. Perhaps a bit boring and safe, but she's a serious writer, at the very least she isn't the sort of writer who will put two epigraphs in a book, the first quoting Ovid and the second quoting Britney Spears.
>>
>>25576969
Patricia Highsmith
>>
>>25577305
Sappho's works comprise about 15 pages of fragments, how long would that take to translate once you've learned Greek? A month? That's not a career, seems like something any serious classicist would do for practice.
