Any books in retrospect that seem like sinkholes for limited life and time and were not worth your investment in them?
>>
Seems odd to assume that the man spent all of those years literally just walking and never had any interesting days of adventure in foreign lands. I thought international travel was praiseworthy to normies.

How do you cross the ocean on foot?

very carefully

I saw a quick video on him and he only crossed from Alaska to Russia when it was frozen. Also swam the Caspian Sea while sleeping on a boat (didn't go around due to visa issues).

Here's a map I found. I don't know if he actually gave up and took a plane instead of walking through the Middle East, but it stands to reason that after 28 years he started to feel like catching up on all the videogames he missed.

Wait a fucking minute, he didn't walk through Africa AT ALL! Didn't even enter it! Someone tell the referee to send him back.

It's bizarre how every boomer is both a turbo conservative and a turbo progressive. Was it always like this or is it a recent phenomenon?

Why did the stretch across eastern Russia take him 11 years?

>books in retrospect that seem like sinkholes for limited life and time
Not really if I had that kind of min maxing kind of mentality where I have to be constantly mindful of how much value I am extracting from things I doubt I would be spending time reading in the first place
>were not worth your investment in them?
Yeah sure many of them actually. First the comes to mind was shantaram, which was 1000+ pages of bullshit, but it was also a gift so I figured that at least completing it was the least I could do to show I appreciated. I wouldn't call that time well spent

none because regrets are for faggots

This guy is based and all accusations of time wasted are just coincidentally from jewish parasites

His walk wasn't continuous. Russia immediately arrested and deported him when he tried to enter. Eventually Russia allowed him to continue and he flew out to the town he was deported from to continue his walk.
>>
>>25578351
Every single time I try reading a book published after 2010 I regret it. I keep trying because I'm retarded and want to believe that literature isn't dead, but I've yet to find proof of that

Most of the best sellers, 99% of them, published in any decade of the 1800’s, would make you feel the same way

I keep seeing this from faggots who do nothing but post LotR memes about themselves walking in the park.

Maybe Blood Meridian. I knew it was third rate at most but you fags kept pushing him. But it’s a kind of model of what to avoid, on several levels, in life and art, and did have a certain though purposeless cinematic grandeur

The Left Hand of Darkness.
What the fuck was this shit? How was it even published?
>>
>>25578351
2666. What a boring waste of time. Especially compared to The Savage Detectives. The only somewhat redeeming part was the Part About the Crimes. The only bit I enjoyed was when they beat up the paki taxi driver for rightfully calling the woman they was in love with a whore. Seriously, is this the best the 21st century has to offer so far?
>>
>>25579951
I just finished that piece of shit today, and it pissed me off.
Almost 900 pages of circlejerk.
Some alright parts, but overall wayyyyy overated.
Plus I didn't care for the boomer worldview that leaked through the entire thing

Demons. Read the first 300 pages twice, on two separate occasions, and gave up each time. Just an awful, awful book.

The Wheel of Time series.
I don't think there's any single book I would say was a "sinkhole" though.

The strait of hormuz being closed means rightgroids are tearing themselves apart with miserable xitter media discourse like "Was Al Bundy a raped goyslave" or "Is family guy problematic for promoting the BNWO" similar to how leftoids started tearing each other apart when Biden started the Ukraine war.

Yeah it infuriated me as well, and the way pseuds defend it by saying:
>but it's meant to be endless unimportant meanderings because that's what modern life is like and it's le existential
pisses me off more. At least something like Waiting for Godot has interesting characters and great comedic timing so as to be entertaining, even if it is supposed to be "pointless" (which I believe is a pseud reading, anyhow). 2666 was just long, bloated, and unfulfilled.
Like you said, some parts were extremely enjoyable; which annoys me more, because Bolano basically edges the reader into staying hooked in the hopes that it will be worth it by the end.

It's sad when you remember millions of people have this kind of babble as their fundamental consciousness for navigating daily life. Television static

It becomes obvious that he just feels like babbling and has no real reason to be writing any of it. However, feeling these things out requires a certain aptitude
