4 diet cokes

one diet coke, she ordered another four after the initial sip. “don't you want some lunch to go with that?” yes she would have loved to forcibly go down on a three stack of pancakes accompanied by two large turkey sausages dripping in grease, a steamy plate of hash browns peppered in brown flakes she wished she could ask for a dipping side of vanilla fluff with her pancakes she would ask for a refill free of shame. a fat older woman would come skirting through the diner in her tight little apron breasts all coming out from the top but in a homely kind of way, in a way that reminded you how you'll never be a child again your mother will never love you like the way she once did when she let you ruin her once perfectly set breasts, her breathtaking figure, you ruined her, she now hates you for it. unwarranted hatred but somehow your fault. she stuck with your father her lackluster bust now prevents her from cheating on a man worth cheating for so she settled hard and became a shut-in, this was her dream, something she could do in the privacy of her own home her own bathroom, she didn't have her own bathroom but she also lacked the shame of others listening in on her purging her imperfections down the drain, she must have been some sort of exhibitionist with the orgasmic thrill she received strutting out of the bathroom, teeth stained, stomach empty, there was nothing that could replace the confidence she exuberated, the exhilarating energy exuded after purging. well, there was, but they were out of her reach momentarily due to her flawed way of perceiving the world: a boyfriend, money, a new view from her window, stable relationships (humans and and miscellaneous other).

>the beat sheet is just the scenes of the outline.
The outline is the road, the beats are the sights you see along the way, as well as the crossroads. The outline places the beats in context of the general direction of the plot. The beats are both important scenes that readers want, e.g. the bang bang pew pew in Saving Private Ryan, and the outcomes of the beats place the characters on the desired path laid by the outline, e.g. Upham saving Mickey Mouse places him at the start of a road that leads in a particular direction. But you still need to fill in the connecting bits of road: you still need to detail Upham's journey from there to the next major action scene. And if you decide that the road won't travel in that particular direction - if Upham saving Mickey Mouse was meant to prescribe mercy rather than demonstrate the consequences of suicidal empathy - then the beat would remain largely the same but the subsequent direction of the path would differ from that chosen by the movie writers.

I’ve been doing a mirror draft where I get my ideas down in one draft, then pass it through using what I think are my best prose examples from the work as a stylistic reference, having it expand length and then I can reference both drafts when I do my second complete rewrite. Sometimes it can unlock better more intentional meaning from what I’m trying to convey. I do this because I have legitimate brain damage and memory problems.

I am done with dictation.

Because I am not restricted to words I can comfortably spell and instead whatever the first word that comes to mind, I end up writing stuff that has vocabulary that is too hard for basically everyone I have shown my writing to.

I still get complaints about the vocabulary being too difficult when I type stuff, but to a much lesser degree since I am far less likely to use "obscure" words that I have to pause to consider the spelling.

“Looks like it’s you and me, big guy,” Kyle whispered in my ear. He took me by my hard-on and led me over to the fire. I almost blew a load just from him touching it. And out of everything that had happened today, that would have been the most embarrassing by a long shot. We passed Emile and Charlotte, but they had their eyes closed and were busy trying to swallow each other’s tongues.

We sat down on a log. The heat from the fire being so close was a bit much, because of how warm the summer air already was. Kyle had his hand around my shoulder. “So, what do you think?”

I honestly had no idea how to respond, so I just said the first thing that came into my head. “Uh, It looks like everyone’s having a good time.”

Oh that was smooth. Why not quit while you’re ahead and throw yourself in the fire?

He kept one paw on my shoulder, and moved his other down to my cock. “Got a girlfriend back home? Boyfriend?”

I looked away at nothing. “Course not. Who’d want a fat dork like me?” The second I said it, I wished I hadn’t. He was fat. His sister was fat. Everybody here was, and I’d just insulted them.

I shivered as I felt his lips press against my cheek.

“I do,” he whispered.

He gave me another squeeze and I could already feel the pressure building. He pulled my speedos down and let it bounce out. There was already sticky stuff all over it. The stuff you get before you cum, I didn’t know what it was called.

“You’re telling me no one else has ever gotten to play with this? A cute boy like y—”

He didn’t get to finish. Ten seconds of stroking and I blew all over everything. Spurts of cum shot out of my cock and then petered off into dribbles.

Never mind, that was now the most embarrassing this you’ve ever done. Give yourself a round of applause for not even lasting 20 seconds into a paw-job.

I buried my face in my paws. “I’m so sorry.” My voice came out muffled.

Kyle laughed and patted me on the shoulder. He still had his other paw wrapped around the limp cock and was squeezing the last few drops out. “It’s different when it’s someone else doing it, huh?”

Is using an in-universe history lesson too heavy handed for exposition? I wanted to explain the settings general backstory but I'm not sure if that's a good idea to start.

So I thought a history lesson might work cause then we can see some people's reactions and the main character's mannerisms
>>
>>25581140
I think its perfectly dietetic and fun but you're gonna get people screeching about how exposition and loredumps are always wrong and have to be shown not told
>>
>>25581140
Yes it is heavy handed. Particularly if it's broad and information that can be defined as "common knowledge" within the world. Also, how realistic is the lesson? Consider actual history lessons, they are rarely exposition dumps. Usually, they are about a very specific time frame and location, or about a specific person's life (great man theory); and not about a setting or describing a timeline of facts, but rather weighing causes and consequences of certain events.
If you absolutely need to do this, consider changing the approach. One alternative is to set an established narrative of history that a character(s) knows about, and then have another character (s) that brings an alternative narrative. This makes the characters active, as they are not receiving information, but rather it creates a back and forth. Also illuminates on the characters backgrounds and the society they were raised in, as it shows what that society placed focus in. You can vary a lot with this, not just facts and series of events. E.g. one can have a more structuralist view and another a more agentic view (like great man theory). Or perhaps one sees things as events more isolated geographically, while another as a more interactions between societies.
You can play a lot with it, so it doesn't register as exposition. Having more than one perspective will allow you to sneak in the information you want, while also developing the characters by what they know, don't know, think, reject, and focus on. Both perspectives may be right, or wrong. What matters is that the characters think that, and why they do is what illuminates on their backgrounds.

>Great man theory
That's a good idea. So my idea is there's a festival coming up honoring the founder of the city. The basic premise is magical dungeons like Dungeon Meshi began appearing and much of the world began dying, with only dungeons as a source of food for the most part. The festival is in honor of the city's founder who lead many people to safety and protected them.

I think maybe for an alternative narrative idea, someone posits it was actually his wife who lead them (the city was formed about 100 years ago) and creates an argument with the MC and others. Not sure if this would be too modern feminist-like though.

I don't think I actually want to write as a hobby if modern readers hate anything other than modern contemporary style with simplistic striped down prose and vocabulary.

I contemplate, to pass the lagging minutes
Such questions as the skeptics love to pose -
Does time have bounds? Has space some outer limit?
If not, we've met, and will again. Who knows?
Is there a world outside, or do I dream?
If dreaming, by what impell'd to dream of you?
Is man's will free or pawn in nature's game,
And love mere puppetry, pre-plann'd, untrue?
On riddles such as these my mind does burn,
Old nature's ancient secrets searching out -
And yours - yet gleaning little in return,
Crowding my head with insoluble doubt.
And yet one truth I still maintain:
Love's real. For proof I have my pain.
>>
>>25584140

And yet I still one certainty maintain:
Love's real. If not * why must I feel its pain?

* how can I feel its pain?

* then nothing's real but pain.
More like real butt pain if you know what I'm getting at.

because the writing is usually terrible on a sentence level and that's often the most glaring issue in amateur writing
you're correct that the people "fixing it" usually arent fixing it tho
also: because more complex advice requires reading and digesting an entire piece and then formulating thoughtful feedback about it, which is easily 30+minutes of work. way too much effort when the response back will be "stfu you just missed the point" or no response at all in 95% of cases

I like my story.
>>
Sometime in the early 2000s

I walked quietly through the darkness of the summer night with the waning gibbous moon highest in the sky. The crowd of the carnival all but gone for a few catatonic witnesses. There was a soft caressing breeze that kissed my glimpsing pale skin outside my black vintage leather jacket. It blew rivulets of blood off my hands as I pulled out the still smoking 10mm Colt Delta Elite in my right hand. The unknown but would be killer gurgled out a gout of blood between his fingers as all his attention was focused on his fatal wounds. His blonde boyish looks that helped him blend in with the crowd didn't help him against my perception. Let alone experience as he thought the numbers would help him. His three partners working together like hyenas against a lion.

I purposely bumped into the one closest in the carnival crowd. He didn't exclaim out loud because I had shoved my Nimravus knife into his throat two times quickly before shoving it into his balls. He did try so hard to exclaim at that but all that came out was discharging blood as even his eyes started to bleed.

"MOTHERFU-," The second would be killer broke his trained composure but only managing the last words of his life as I pulled out the 10mm to his chest and snapped out shots three times before quickly snapping out another two into his head.

Then I quickly zeroed in on their leader with the Colt Delta Elite and punched loud holes through the civilian shield he was holding against him and hiding behind. He had foolishly hoped it would have stopped the full discharge of the hollow point filled with full gun powder instead of like the half filled rounds the police used.

That was foolish to even think I would hesitate.

They both went down in a shower of gore spraying everywhere, into the sky, onto the crowd, and spilt on the desecrated ground that wars were fought on.

I knew I didn't have enough time to quickly zero in on the last motherfucker for a quick and finishing kill.

So I rammed the back of my elbow in a direct upper strike against his chin and then like a freight train of over three hundred pounds, I slammed another repeated upper cut into his chin with the loud quick snap of teeth breaking. Blood spilled out across my face but I wasn't satisfied in the middle of the fleeing crowd of the carnival. They fucking saw me, my tactics, what I was capable of. The witnesses wouldn't only be interrogated by police but mind fucked into replaying word by word what they saw by the enemy operating within the country. I didn't like that one cunting bit.

But I should be thankful they didn't have the technology for real playback yet for another ten years.

There are at least two of us using git and coding text editors.
I don't know what to say, other than my past few jobs have been coding gigs, so I'm very comfortable moving around in VS Code. I have it configured the way I like and I know all the keyboard shortcuts. Years ago, when I did technical writing, I was extremely proficient with MS Word (Office 2016 version, probably). I still remember a lot of the formatting tricks for it, so I could go back if I wanted to, but I'm comfy.

No, I wouldn't recommend this for anyone else, unless you're already used to working in this kind of environment. Otherwise, it's a lot to learn for probably little benefit.
I'm only doing it because I found out about the Fountain file format for screenplays and there's a free plugin for VS Code. And because I'm cheap and don't want to pay for Final Draft (yet). And like I said here, >>25584644, I do know MS Word, but this is easier for me.
As for using git... eh, I like it, because I can easily see what I changed between drafts. I know Word has the Track Changes functionality too, I used it when I wrote IT policies in a previous life. But I remember it being a pain in the ass and kind of flaky.
>>
>>25584653
final draft is basically mandatory because you have to tune it to be one page per minute of screentime
>>
>>25584669
Yes, the standard is to use a monospace font of a certain size with certain margins and certain amounts of space between lines. If you do that (and the PDF-rendering plugin I use does), then you get pretty near to 1 page/min. There are MS Word templates you can use that accomplish the same thing, or you could set one up yourself, but with MS Word it's really easy accidentally tweak with the formatting and completely fuck it. That's why it's important to use actual software for screenwriting. Final Draft is the most popular, and has a lot of other nice-to-have features, but it's not the only one that does the 1 page/min format. They've been doing that in Hollywood since typewriters.

AI training trends toward something called "reversion to the mean", where the weighting of ambiguous data (like taste in fiction) tries to split the difference. So if AI approves of your writing, that's another way of saying it's bland, boring, and inoffensive. Certainly nothing to crow about if your intention is to be edgy.

I'm writing a part in a story that's horribly sad and bittersweet and I know it's gonna make me cry, and I don't want to. I don't want my family asking what I'm crying about. I feel like such a pussy.
>>
She reached around on the floor without looking, pushing through the garbage dump of empty bags and discarded wrappers, grabbing the first thing she found. A family size bag of cheddar cheese potato chips. She tore the bag open and started mindlessly feeding them into her mouth. Laying in bed in the position she was in, she couldn’t see her feet over the mound of her belly that rose several inches into the air. She pushed down with one hand to make sure they were still there. She wiggled her toes in her pink socks, then stopped pushing down and they disappeared again.

Alissa had never been skinny. Always a chubby little kid. But in the last four months since their dad had walked out, she’d absolutely ballooned. The comfort eating had started day of and hadn’t stopped for even a moment since.

Her white pajamas with the green dinosaurs had grown almost skin tight. No, they hadn’t grown. They’d stayed exactly the same. She’d grown. Getting the next size up would have involved an embarrassing conversation with her mother, so she just chose to live with it. There were six buttons, and currently two were undone.

She hadn’t looked at herself in the mirror in weeks. Always keeping her eyes closed when she showered or brushed her teeth. She’d accidentally caught a glimpse of herself a while ago and it had looked like a Bigfoot sighting. Under the bathroom sink, lurking like a horrible monster, was their scale. She didn’t dare go near it, in case it jumped out and weighed her.

At least she wasn’t crying anymore. She’d start again later, but for now the food was doing its job. She let out a loud, disgusting belch that the neighbors down the street probably heard. The chips were kind of plain, so she fumbled around her windowsill for the nutella. Not taking her glazed eyes off the TV, she started dipping the chips in a thick slathering of chocolate before each bite.

From somewhere in the folds of her bed sheets, her phone buzzed a notification. She lurch into a sitting position, spilling chip crumbs down her front, and frantically searched for it. She found it under the covers and tapped the pop-up to see what had been posted.

It was Emma Steinwitz. Pretty little bleach-blonde skinny enough she could hide behind a coat rack Emma Steinwitz. She’d posted a selfie in math class with one eye closed and her pierced tongue sticking out from between her glossy pink lips.

Alissa felt a pulsing hatred radiate through her entire body. With chocolate-stained fingers and eyes glaring, she left several mean comments in quick succession from her anonymous account.

“Slut”

“Nice Dye Job”

“Didn’t I see you at the STD clinic last week?”

She then switched to a second fake account to thumbs-up all her own comments. A satisfied grin spread across her face.

Not him but I am yet another person using markdown and git for versioning. (I guess that makes three of us total if >>25584644 is anything to go by?) Also a programmer by trade so it's less autism and more just using the tools I'm already familiar with. Unlike other anon, I would not recommend people learn git and other programming tools just for this unless you really want to. Plenty of other options. It's just happens to be convenient for me. I will say that git is specifically built for versioning text. Like that's its whole purpose. That's what code is at its core, just text files with different extension names. So it's an incredibly efficient and useful tool once you learn how to use it. Instead of saving the entire text several times over, it saves the full text once and then saves only what changed between each version and layers those changes on top to give you your current working version so the footprint's really small.

Nothing in particular, just shit posting. The story itself is about a couple kids whose house burns down with parents inside and they live on the street for a while before getting picked up by some gruff guy. Guff guy becomes father figure and basically adopts them and falls for the woman who helps him care for them. Obviously there's more flavor and stuff going on underneath but that's the gist.

Why you keep pointing out great man theory (great man theory) like this, when it has nothing to do with the point? I'm talking about the (great man theory) usage: specific person's life or agentic view is understandable enough. It's like saying crimson (red) or OP (retard): you're drawing attention away from your point and making it seem like you hate great man theory enough to shit it in public places (your mom).
>>
>>25584653
>No, I wouldn't recommend this for anyone else, unless you're already used to working in this kind of environment. Otherwise, it's a lot to learn for probably little benefit.
I disagree. Pratically the only skill a fiction writers need for git is
>git add --all;
>git commit -m "X"
>git checkout -b X_1
>git checkout X_2
>git checkout X_1
The hardest part is trusting what the terminal said. Hell if they're willing to use github desktop, even for docx, you get save as capabilities while being able to navigate between drafts quickly without having multiple files. There's probably some issues, I use markdown (because I write in lunch like a slave I am), but I doubt you couldn't make it work if you really want to.
>>
>>25583023
It's the cumulation and not selling me that you earned it. If you're a Victorian writer, I trust you with two dollar words like countenance or ardor. But if you're story is sloppy, description is fake and your diction is violating POV (like having a five year old in 2025 know what countenance is) than I don't trust you with those words. In the modern age it's a glass canon: if you can write well it's great, but if you can't its purple prose.

would a five year old in 1855 know what countenance means?
>>
>>25586636
>It's the cumulation
Dude, I have read your sentence several times and this part in context makes no fucking sense.
The cumulation of what nigga?
> not selling me that you earned it
Someone thinks overly highly of themselves. Who the fuck are you?
Do you even regularly read/buy indie books?
No?
Then no one in this thread should give the faintest fuck about your opinion on anything because you aren't the target audience. You are someone who gets filtered by words.
> two dollar words
Words are free to a free mind. Your mind is contracted so you are on a cognitive budget.
>>
>>25586742
Depends on their class. I think it's a word someone of the upper crust would be exposed to enough that they would have some idea of the context in which it is used, even if they couldn't define it.

Doubt a lower class youth would know.

>>25586742
Yes? I got it from Frankenstein and not only did he say it, but he said it multiple times. It's common enough that I imagine lower classes themselves know about it. I didn't research this but this is speculation from first principals.
>>25586751
Lol I didn't format it correctly cause I'm drunk and a fag. What I specifically mean is you're using ornate diction to hide the fact that your story is garbage. I said Frankenstein because I do enjoy that style (even if I fail at it ), as well as Oliver Twist and House of Mirth. But when I said they earn it, I mean the story actually has things to say, characters to explore, and a plot that's fun.
As for your buying indie books, let's set aside the fact that it's easily disprovable, I said "selling it to me" as a way of saying you got to earn that diction. Language that blurs the meaning of the story is just a crutch of a bad story.
>>
>"Build your vocabulary to make yourself a better reader; choose simple words whenever possible to make yourself a better writer."

This is gospel. This is the truth. Anyone who says otherwise is a liar and a fool. No, I didn't take it out of context

Simple enough for you?

I feel like you're simplifying what I said. What I said is simple: unless you have a good command on language and your story is good, you should avoid high diction. A word here or there for description is fine, but it shouldn't be meat of the story unless you know what you're doing. That's why I said I don't mind Frankenstein. Shelly knows what's she's doing. She knows how to portray someone's head, like Victor's autism with alchemy. With that I am onboard for the ride. What I am specifically talking about is writers who have nothing to say, who use big words (or even multiple words) for the effect of one word for no reason. Purple prose.

So to simplify even more into a pithy sound bite.

That's what GUIs are for. Git Extensions is available on most platforms. I use Git Gui and Git Kraken under Linux. You're going to need a GUI for visual-diff anyway. I use Meld.

My parents were poor. The library is free.
>>
>>25586887
Were there even free libraries in 1855?
Also wasn't literacy for the lower classes in that time period really low?
>>
>>25586895
The first free library in America opened in 1790, whippersnapper. And literacy is a matter of effort, slacker.
>>
>>25586866
I fundamentally disagree with this due to how learning works.
If someone doesn't practice something they never will get better at it.
Everyone is bad when they first start, they shouldn't avoid something because they are bad at it. They should do it more to practice, learn from what they are doing wrong, and do better next time in the next draft/story.

You can not get better at what is difficult by avoiding what is hard. You don't get better if you fear failure or being bad at something.
Embrace failure as part of the process. Embrace being bad at something as part of the journey. And most of all reject the small minds that aim to crush you for aiming high, only embrace criticism that is actually factually constructive towards your goals. You reach the highest highs by building up to it, not by tearing things down to the lowest common denominator.

"Just" "Release" "IT" to "Nature" and "LET IT GO"

Have you heard? https://youtu.be/L0MK7qz13bU

Concatenate "Just" with "ice" respectively.

Do you know you need two "positions" to measure the "distance"?

Do you know in what "unit" is "distance" through "space" measured?

If you went through the coming "TRIAL" doing your "Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart" put in YOUR mind that God does play dice and God KNOWS at what "Face-" would the dice be "UP", We can do it through a Very Advanced Computer with a Very Precise "CAMERA" (A Vision Identification System) and an ((Excellently)) designed "intelligent" software and WE can carefully measure the forces on the dice even with the existence fluid resistance and through the "distance" and "time" it would "Touch The Grass".

WHAT YOU'LL BRING:
Reggie was sick of seeing it, always followed by some pithy jargon that does a half-job of explaining what undervalued experience he should be lugging behind him into yet another bland corporate sarcophagus. He felt a prospective employee would recognize this language as empty and pandering.
"But you can't say that..." he muttered to himself, his fingers pecking at another cover letter, most of which was copied and pasted the fiftieth time over, details changed as needed. "You can't say that at all."
He grabbed his room temperature bottle of Reed's, pulling it up for a sip, but he clipped the bottle on the back of his laptop screen. in a bad reflex, he dropped the bottle, flooding his dusty keyboard and its ailing switches with the spiciest ginger ale the Kroger on West Dale Street had to offer.
"God FUCKING DAMMIT!"
Reggie stumbled as he kicked his chair back. Struggling to keep his balance, he stepped forward without realizing his bare foot was now beneath the metal five-star base of his chair. A blast of pain fired behind his eyes as the base raked the top of his foot and toes, and he stepped forward quickly with his free leg in an effort not to fall, but the belt loop of his jeans had already been perilously close to the knob of his desk's sliding drawer, and with this newest motion, the knob had caught his jeans firm, and Reggie's battle to stay upright came to a theatrical close.
He spun to the right as he fell, his hip hitting the seat of the chair, further scraping his foot as it flew upward from the chair's base, and as he tumbled, his opposite foot kicked the underside of his desk hard enough to knock the laptop onto it's back, further splashing the faux-Caribbean soda all over his workstation.
Reggie completed his arc, landing flat on the floor. A sharp exchange of information between his battered L-4 and L-5 made it to his head faster than he could react, and he lay on the floor defeated. A piss-like ginger ale puddle stained the crotch and right inseam of his jeans, the belt loop and waistband of which were now partially ripped.
"What I'll bring..." Reggie groaned, and he thumped the desk angrily with his fist. Cathartic as it was, this caused the now mostly empty Reed's bottle to roll off of the desktop, tumbling in its descent. Fixated on the bottle's acrobatics, Reggie realized too late its trajectory, and was unable to brace himself as the bottle's aft end landed right in the center of his crotch.
An involuntary abdominal crunch from the pain caused his lumbar spine to once more yell upstairs, his mind happy to respond with more pain, humbling him.
Opening his eyes as the circus of agony left town, Reggie could see the ceiling fan spinning slowly and off kilter above him, its hypnotic sway a relic of the two mounting screws he'd never replaced. The whole room smelled like warm ginger ale and Reggie wished that the fan would come loose and crush his skull.
"What you'll bring."

if language is for communication, then to obfuscate it because you’re impressed by complicated words is the unintellectual (or should we just say, stupid) move. you might know more but your power of judgement is less.
>>
>>25589723

May I resolve this conflict between you?

I think, therfore I am :), that the possession of the quality of good judgment makes it obvious for you when to use a specfic word do you need a simple word so the meaning is direct or some complex word that holds a complex meaning, for example you usage of the word "obfuscate", I do not think it is a simple word but it fits well and delivered the meaning you wanted to do so.

While many factors are involved such as the circumstances and the current state of the audience... etc.

Although I think that judgment and knowledge can be aquired, don't you think so?
>>
>>25589745
esl?

I have a question, this isn’t really about the quality of the stories at all
But how do writers create insanely long stories like something like ASOIAF or hell even long convoluted game series like Kingdom Hearts
Obviously not everything is planned out and you can just write as you go, but how to you not retroactively make things worse, or write yourself into a corner where a twist or reveal wouldn’t make sense anymore
