I've been meaning to make a thread about this a while back in very late August. Especially since...before the memes took over. But understanding the meaning of family in Harry Potter has left me very disillusioned on the concept of family as I said before.For a couple to go out of their way to love each other to build a lifestyle contradicting the ethos of the set-in universe (i.e. a Pureblood and a Half-blood procreating) also seems to contradict the ethos of the franchise.Something about seeing the main purebloods also throws me off quite a bit and it seemed that Rowling didn't think much of this through when considering to write the idea and concept of such families.The Weasleys seem more meek and breed like rabbits. The Malfoys (yes, I know; shut the fuck up) seem more stereotypically greedy and discontent. They don't feel like actual people. Others spread out like Neville Longbottom, Bellatrix Lestrange, Sirius Black, and Dumbledore seem more like caricatures meant to service the plot or showcase us examples of Purebloods. But the story doesn't go out of its way to really show what a Pureblood can actually be capable of if given the circumstances.My mind usually read the Weasleys as the equivalent to the Uchihas in a weird sense. Then again, Harry Potter is essentially a western parallel to Naruto. But that's beside my point. My point is how Rowling severely drops the ball on making its "legendary lineages" feel actually legendary. They don't serve the monolithic status the story expects them to live up to.My point is this: Genetically speaking, how can a family expect itself to prosper when it doesn't understand what its own people are capable of or what their limitations ought to be? Is family in fiction a thematic setpiece or just a cosmic reminder of "haha, peepee go in vagina?"Maybe that's why Malfoid exists: To remind us where we once were when we needed love the most.
