What do you all think of Dungeon crawler Carl?
>>
>>25585366
reddit-tier garbage for the lowest common denominator of male readers
/thread
>>
I don't have to read it to know it's shit. You actually can judge a book by its cover as it turns out.
>>
>>25585366
it's okay 6,5/10
it has a problem called "each book is like 700 pages" so it drags on in parts.

however in the "litrpg" genre it's easily a 10/10
>>
Probably not worth the time it takes to read.
>>
>>25585366
It's fun, as blockbuster movies starring a bunch of celebrities or top 40 radio are.
Don't expect it to be groundbreaking, incredibly profound or written in impeccable prose.
It's about a dude stuck in an RPG dungeon, doing RPG things with a bunch of NPCs and a deranged game master. There is a bit of political intrigue and galactic-scale shit going on but you're gonna be reading about people fighting or solving puzzles like 90% of the time.
It honestly helped me escape a bit from some heavy shit I've been dealing with. I've consumed the series like crack, finished 6 books in a month.
Give it a try anons, it shouldn't take more than a couple hours to read the first one and you'll know if you like it or hate it almost immediately.
>>
Absolute dog shit for retards
>>
>>25585366
It's a fun series. my wife and i listened to the most of the books while we were both doing a lot of travelling. For litRPGs, they're solid, they aren't great in a vaccuum. people expecting them to be anything other than that are fucking morons.

>Embarrassing genre
>Lazy prose
>Duck tape and yarn worldbuidling
>Insufferable nerd culture consumer sensibilities i.e "reddit"
>could not stop reading it

Once again the normies are correct and the gatekeepers are seething fags. I expect this will become the cool thing to hate in the next couple of years as everyone you know reads it.
>>
>>25585366
I only made it to the second book before I realized every book is just: fight mobs to level up to kill mini boss before going to next floor, bunch of furfag references, maybe a cringe interview that doesnt move the plot any. Once I remembered there were six more books I noped out. The problem is repetitive plot lines and its a big problem. Also they tease later parts early on almost spoiling whats going to happen. Its really if reddit made a book series with ai writing all the plotlines.
>>
slightly shittier hitchhikers guide to the galaxy. take that how you will. the prose is not as fanciful and you can definitely tell it was written chapter by chapter
>>

>bunch of furfag references
Such as?

there was some autistic high schooler yapping about something retarded nonstop while holding this book at a garden party I went to this summer

I read the first few pages and it's trash. But I guess I should be happy something's popular that isn't foid romantasy porn.
>>
>>25585366
I'm going to have to read it. Basically everyone I know is pestering me about it. Hopefully my extremely low expectations will salvage the experience.

>>25585366
As I keep saying in every one of these shill threads,
>not literature

>>25585366
threw up after listening to the book title

I've read the whole series. It's fun. Not great, not terrible. I have actual thoughts about it for anyone who's considering reading it, but talking about this on /lit/ is like talking about dating on /r9k/.
>>
>>25585366
My mom likes it dude and she's been asking me to read it and I haven't the heart to tell her that series is for retards.

I'm not a big genre fic reader anymore but I do want to give the first book a shot sometime later as I've heard from various sources that it's not that bad, and I could go for a litrpg book. Can you confirm? Or do you have another favorite entry in the series?
>>
Its going to be the same shit as Rick and Morty where everyone will say they hate it and always hated it.

With that said, Ive enjoyed it. My wife recommended it to me and I thought it would be a bit too silly for my tastes, but hey, its been fun.

Its basically an 80s buddy cop movie vibe. Im on book six and will finish the series.

As a gamer I found all the little tropes pretty funny.

Listen to the audio book. It’s better then the book and makes it more like a cheesy B movie.
>>
>>25585366
it was a fun read, had to take a break at the third book though not feeling the subway setting

I liked the series as a whole, and that surprised me since I don't read litrpg or modern pop fantasy. Maybe it's horribly derivative and I'm not aware. The writing is just ok. Prose isn't great and if you're sensitive to reddit speak you'll have a hard time, especially because the AI character is literally based on annoying internet culture. It's fun, not great literature.

The first book doesn't totally represent the rest of the series. It's the only one that takes place in a dungeon, and there's no plot beyond introducing game mechanics and characters. Everything opens up and becomes more involved as the books go on. Like book 4 is sort of an Indiana Jones adventure story. I'd say books 4-7 are the best. If you're a train autist then book 3. Book 8 was a huge letdown to me. Felt like it was a mess of stuff cobbled together.

>>25588851
This is very much a preference. I can't deal with the audio book. I think it's annoying. I'd kill myself if I had to listen to hours of Monty Python voices.
>>
>>25585366
Not serious literature but it can still be fun! The same way that video games and anime arent art but can still be fun!
>>
>>25589066
You need something in there about your wife's boyfriend to wrap it up.
>>
What would your strategy be if you were in the DCC game? I'd probably make a long-range archer or spellcaster. Long-range attacks are usually really strong in both real life and in videogames.
>>
>>25589082
>What would your strategy be if you were in the DCC game?
Blow loads into the tattooed topless fish elf.
>>
How do you think the series will end?

The stepbrother subplot was dumb. Most of book 8 should not have existed and was odd in tone like making a big deal to befriend those dudes at the start then kinda "*deep sigh* guess we gotta snub them now" + exposition shoved in at the end tip. Eris subplot is dumb. Donut has become a funnier character but she was possibly the best in book 7. The best scene was Carl snuffing that mudskipper.
You guys see the webtoon? lol

>>
>>25589254
>How do you think the series will end?
No clue. The author tends to pull shit out of his ass at the last minute. I think a traditional ending would be Donut dying Carl sacrificing himself with his primal race choice by ascending to the AI collective and acting like their conscience in rebuilding the universe in a positive model.

>Most of book 8 should not have existed
I don't get book 8. It feels like he had a bunch of ideas that he wanted to use, but didn't fit together, so he just shoehorned them all into a plot outline that would leave the characters where they needed to be to move onto the next book. The pacing, narrative structure, everything was broken. Even shit like using a plot device to reduce the size of the cast and adding two fucking comic relief characters with one being a love interest.
>>
>check new-kemono
>barely any progress on book 9
>already named The Beautiful Place pandering hard for K:BS sales (was always a vague term too)
>prologue, 5 chapters, and an interlude since june
lolz
>>
>>25589273
Every time that land shark appears on the page, I ask myself, "why does this character exist"?
Far as I can tell, you can delete him from every single scene he's in and NOTHING (else) changes.
There are a bunch of characters like this.
>>
>>25585366
It's DnD + Running Man + Rick and Morty + Hitchhikers Guide.
I expected to absolutely despise it, but I actually enjoyed the first book more than I expected to, but didn't enjoy it enough to want to read the numerous sequels.
5/10
