Any interesting or good books about or with manic / hypomanic / bipolar characters? or from authors that are?im interested in the ones with mania more so than depression, both is fine too
Lucretius is an interesting one. He believes in this materialist/hedonist philosophy so fervently and then writes about the plague and an heros without finishing it. It’s not known that he had bipolar disorder but I think it’s probable and you can see the whole cycle in his poem.
One of my best friends has bipolar disorder. It’s annoying because he’s a reasonably intelligent guy but he’s convinced mental illness makes him smarter/more creative when it really just makes him retarded and insane. None of his manic ideas make sense, it’ll be something ridiculous like “dog is god backwards!” but he’s convinced he has special insight. He will also do dangerous things like he tried to pull the parking brake while we were on the freeway. What a fucking retard honestly. We romanticize these disorders because of capitalism, we imagine the ‘lone genius’ that no one understands. Not so.

>>25590910Hit a nerve, did I? Well don’t kill yourself over it. Freud said manic depressives are always narcissistic.
>>25590929I didn’t read past the first sentence.
>>25590935Thanks for illustrating my point - manic depressives are narcissists who think they have magick powers. Yawn.
>>25590953Yea… good job pal
Ime people with bipolar 1 are usually also alcoholics so there is a big crossover between the two. And there are innumerable alcoholic writers.
