What the fuck was his problem?
His friend Richard Fariña died in a "motorcycle accident," then his other friend Bob Dylan had a "motorcycle accident" that caused him to become Christian and stop writing anti-war songs, so he took the hint and kept his mouth shut.
>>25597034I don't believe this quote to be real.
>>25597044Its not, it is an old meme.
>>25597042pynchon was a fed who helped kill his friend farina (fred hampton style) for getting too uppity about the military industrial complex. i don't know if that's true but it would be cool
>>25597034Should've been an aardvaark, not an anteater
>>25597042Dylan was friends (and eskimo bros) with Fariña, but not Pynchon. And Dylan stopped writing topical, political songs before 1966
>>25597812>And Dylan stopped writing topical, political songs before 1966What?
>>25597828He wrote "My Back Pages" in 1964, closing the book on protest music. By 1967, he was writing backhanded jabs at Joan Baez like "As I Went Out One Morning" talking about how he felt used during that period (1). He also gave an infamous interview to folky magazine Sing Out! where he intimated that he kinda maybe supports the Vietnam war. By the time of the Rolling Thunder Revue, he came back into the fold of political writing after a ten year absence. Note1) There are some interesting anecdotes about this song. It most specifically refers to an incident where Dylan was being given the Thomas Paine Award by the National Emergency Civil Liberties Committee. He gives a drunken speech including some words about how he feels like he gets where Lee Harvey Oswald was coming from. He is criticized in the press while Joan Baez lobbies him to join the Freedom Riders on a voting registration drive in the south. This seemed to sour him more than anything else on political activism.
Whoa, huge slam on anteaters outta nowhere!
