Who is the most overrated fantasy author of all time?
>>25600837Tolkien
>>25600868Trick question, It's Gene Wolfe.
>>25600837C.S Lewis he isn't a bad writer by any means but Narnia is one of his weakest and most mass consumer slop works
>>25600837All of them desu
Tolkien.
>>25600837GRRM, Sanderson, Erickson, Rothfuss
>>25600837I so badly want to say Tolkien because I genuinely don't like his books. I think you need nostalgia goggles on to think his works are great. However, he actually contributed to the genre in ways that made later works from other authors more interesting so I can't.So George R.R. Martin it is. Shit prose, unfinished work. Will be forgotten if he leaves it unfinished before he croaks. We already know this to be true because where did all the cultural relevance of the series go after S8? Yeah thats right, It died overnight. Only ever brought up, as example of how shit a final season can be, but as anyone who rewatches it knows, it was never even really that great.
>>25600837whichever one wrote the bible
Tolkien and LeGuin are the only ones that are ever "rated" outside of web forums for shut ins and retards. If you're talking about being overrated then you only have two to talk about. If you mean who gets slavered over the most loudly and incorrectly on Reddit, or in the cum stench atmosphere of one of those stores selling used videogames and Pokemon cards, then it's Sanderson.
>>25600928Does anyone ever care about Wolfe outside /lit/?
>>25600837I know we don't take women seriously but... Rowling and Sarah J Maas 100% deserve to be in the running because women actually rate them. Not only that but there are like 100x the amount of women who read Maas than whoever is number 4 after Tolkien, Martin and Sanderson.
LeGuin. Is there anything more abhorrent than a whiney leftist woman demanding that her books about space ships and dragons be respected as works of genuine literature? At least other new age sci-fi writers such as Ballard seperated himself from the gimmicks of the genre to offer something that could have real literary and psycological value. LeGuin just writes slop but demands her flowers, even though there were much better female sci-fi writers working at the same time as LeGuin, that are far more literary, such as Angela Carter and Angelica Gorodischer.
>>25601517I'm glad someone other than me finally said this
>>25601517Whiney retards who hate women of merit because they feel so so fucking small and actually post about it online, are FAR and away more abhorrent.
>>25601519>I'm so glad there are people as bitchy and stupid as me. I clapped!
>>25601523Poor bait but I'll bite. Did you even read my post:>there were much better female sci-fi writers working at the same time as LeGuin, that are far more literary, such as Angela Carter and Angelica Gorodischer. Both Carter and Gorodischer are feminist writers, as well, if that helps.
>>25601423Someone who jerked off to children cartoons would say that.
>>25601479I only see hate of him here
>>25601479do you ever leave /lit/ or your bedroom?
>>25600868FPBP. Tolkien isn't even bad, but the way people treat him as some kind of trad prophet is absolutely deranged.
>>25600868Tolkien obviously. His prose is leaden and reading it is like swimming through treacle. The Hobbit is also better than Lord of the Rings, which isn't saying much. The Silmarillion is I suppose tolerable
>>25603706>His prose is leaden and reading it is like swimming through treacle. How do you have this opinion and then say shit like>The Hobbit is also better than Lord of the Rings, which isn't saying much.>The Silmarillion is I suppose tolerablefucking pretentious
>>25600837>filtered
>>25600837Easily Rothfuss. He didn't even come close to finishing his story, yet people still talk about him.
>>25600837Pic unrelated or are you just a fucking retard? Probably that sanderson fuck never read him but his work sounds like shit
>>25604735>>25604766Grow up manchildren
>>25601517LeGuin's refusal of space opera shit and focus on imaginary anthropology in her Hainish novels is great. She certainly deserves her flowers. Always Coming Home is a "road not taken" of systems novels. Her poetry is just OK and Bloom probably praised it to high heavens because she bought him a succulent mcdonalds meal once, which was his criteria for canonization towards the end of his life. She has some very nice poems, though.Even if you hate her she's obviously better than Sanderson, which is the answer to the OP.
>>25602050It's literally one contrarian schizo who hates Wolfe for some reason: >>25604806These pictures of his are practically avatarfagging at this point.
