What's the worst book you ever finished?
>>

Anons diary desu
>>
In which the MC goes back in time to have sex with his own mother, giving birth to a race of descendants that he also has sex with, except for the youngest children, who he spanks, all in the name of saving humanity from communism and teaching the universe about capitalism.

Did it work?

Probably The Confessions of Saint Patrick or The Bhagavad Gita.
>>
>>25602174
The Bhagavad gita is only worth reading if you have dropped LSD
And even then it's just for the imagery

A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara

Complete dogshit. I finished it out of spite so that when I tell the imbeciles who rave about it that it is in fact dogshit, they can't dismiss me by simply saying I didn't finish it.
>>
>>25602163
Doctor Zhivago. A big pile of crap.
>>
>>25602163
City of My Dreams, by Fogelström. I felt like I had been punched in the head out of boredom. I still sigh as a reflex by thinking about it.
>>
>>25602163
The House on Mango Street. I set it on fire after I was done with it.
>>
>>25602169
bravo heinlein you've done it again
>>
The King in Yellow. I don't read books I find boring but forced myself to finish it because of how short it is. The experience was nonetheless agonising.

What didn’t you like about it? I’ve had it on my Amazon wish list for a while.

Every single book by Sorokin.

Fiction:
Firestarter by King
Where's the punctuation, mr. king? Why the run on sentences, mr King?

War of Gifts by Orson Scott Card
160 pages of a 13 yo boy complaining about religion in space. Why.

Homeward bound by turtledove
He repeats himself constantly, book was a ton of drivel

Book of Daniel, also by Turtledove
Great Depression baseball sounds cool, but let's add a fantasy element to it and be verbose. Now it's boring

Non fiction
Behind the mask of mormonism
Non denom protestants debunking mormonism in the most intellectual and dry way possible

When people are big and God is small
Again Non denoms telling me how to lose social anxiety by giving me social anxiety

IT
It really cannot be overstated just how bad King can be. He completely refuses to reign his worst habits in.
IT would've worked better if it was just the child part. It would've been a fun, pulpy horror. Instead he wants to insert child orgies, weird Lovecraftian themes, and themes of generational trauma. And despite its ambition IT's fucking bad.

I like to read Swedish literature and liked Mobergs Emigrants-series a lot. How would you compare it to Fogelström?

This book on the Talmud written by a Jewish man doing damage control

i'm glad to find someone that also didn't like the idiot, i didn't definitely hate it but it felt overrated as fuck to me

Crime and Punishment was fantastic, so was Notes from the Underground. The Idiot, while in my opinion the first part was good, quickly spiraled into mediocrity, then it simply became bad. Melodramatic, bloated and not too cleverly written, with characters shouting every fifth line unless they're monologuing about some subject Dosto REALLY wanted to address. Worst of his long novels for sure.

BASED?

The worst one goes to The Trial, from Kafka.
The author walks in fucking glass to write the most boring shit he could think to explain to his friends why he hates law (Kafka graduated in law but was an incompetent lawyer). Nothing ever happens the entire book, and this piece of shit refuses any help he is offered.
This shit is only popular because Hitler lost.
>>
>>25602163
Stranger in a Strange Land. Started off really good then went to shit halfway through. By the end, it was just abysmal.
>>
Fiction:
The Great Gatsby by F Scott Fitzgerald

Nonfiction:
Debt: The First 5,000 Years by David Graeber

Probably The Idiot for me too

I remember some poor woman with rickets moving out of her shitty little flat and the titular idiot knocking his head, apart from that it was a right bore

Not that guy but i would consider Fogelström primarily a historian, i wouldn't really recommend him unless you are into micro history and/or the history of Stockholm.

The Stad series is mostly just a vehicle for recounting local history through the lens of fictional characters. I really enjoyed it but i can definitely understand why others would find him really dry and boring.

>>25602169
Incredibly based, and not even the weirdest Heinlein story.
>>25603680
I recently read Gatsby for the first time as an adult and also found it to be dogshit. I shouldn’t have been surprised since women seem to love it.

unironically one of the finer pleasures associated with reading

Hijos del carbón as non fic.

The legend of the saint drinker, I don't the translation, a bum receiving money all the time and doing nothing. I just finished it because it was 40 pages and maybe the end was worth something.

Slaughterhouse Five insists upon itself
