In hindsight, I should have tried to become an actor. Literature is just too powerful. I remember when I began to read serious novels and poetry, the effect it had on me, the power, the spirituality, the psychic earthquake. There was no turning back.
>>
>>25617230
Not too late. The actors I know, some very successful, are, mostly by choice, perpetually out of work. There is surely time to pursue it whilst doing other things.

I will never understand rightoids' obsession with Fauci. Is it because time and time again, the evil people turn out to be conservatives and conservatives turn out to be evil, so the right must create villains on the other side from nefarious myths and willful misrepresentation?

Acting was always my main passion before literature, but given the fact I am porky and sweat more than the average person, I realised it would be too undignified of me to pursue a career on stage.

I feel like everyone, if they live long enough, has at least one moment in their life that's overtly supernatural.

I don't know how materialists cope with such moments when they arrive.
>>
there is nothing supernatural that could occur from the sum of our parts
>>
>>25617280
Nice fantasy but most people make it though their whole life without having a schizoid mental break, and it doesn't help you to get better if you indulge in one excessively.

>>25617293
is this some kind of weird projection?
>>
>>25617230
I'm never less comfortable than when I'm in a room full of actors.
>>
>>25617280
From my observations of people, it depends on the type of materialist and the character of the 'overtly supernatural' event. I also think people who are of the extreme 'rationalist', atheist bent are a lot less likely to experience anything like that because they have constricted their awareness so tightly, like obsessive compulsives who barely feel the effects of psychedelic dosing. Anyways, a lot of people write off anything like that as weird coincidence, I must be really tired, I must have ingested some chemical, I must have some neurochemical hiccup, etc.

How does a society produce conservative women? This is the most important thing a society can do, for conservative women are the foundation of it all. They raise conservative sons and daughters who will be proud of their civilization. Only the Muslims and Haredim Jews have been capable of it. Everyone else: Chinese, Koreans, Hindus, Europeans, Americans? The women are liberal and leftist, and these societies decay as a result.

I've taken a melatonin every night for like ten years now and it still works. I do have trouble sleeping if I don't take it, so I think my body has gotten lazy with making it's own melatonin like it's supposed to but if I abstained for a couple weeks it would start up again.

You can very easily power though a melatonin. I take mine about 30 minutes before I want to be asleep and make sure my eyes are closed and I'm laying flat and all the normal shit when that 30 minutes comes to bear. I find that if I miss my window taking a second one does nothing that night, so I try to hit it right. Anyway what I'm saying is that probably the melatonin is still working fine for you it's just some nights you can blow through it. It's a fairly mild drug and there's variation in how up your brain wants to be.
>>
I don't have family or money and will probably live in a car soon. I was raised to be an abject white trash retard and a bachelors would never be in the cards. This year though I took a creative writing class at a community college. Just last week the professor literally pulled me out of class and told me I was the best writer he's ever had.

I have no idea what a smart person even is. Does that mean I'm just the least retarded, or would I do well at a university too? I guess no one can tell me but him. I'm not sure how I'd ask him that question.
>>
>>25617527
Very unlikely. The standards for most buildings get them though at least minor earthquakes. The stress on your building from a big gust of wind is probably many times what it's suffering from the construction. Buildings are made out of different materials that are attached to each other in many places so it's basically impossible to get some kind of harmonic oscillation going. Etc.

Being smart isn't terribly important for being a good writer. Some people have a knack for it by chance, all good writers read a lot. It's more like making music than doing architecture.

Everyone can succeed at pretty much any undergraduate program in a university. Where people fail is they don't work hard at it (I never had to work to get an A in high school, you can't keep doing that in university, you'll fail) or else they skip the introductory classes when they actually need them and go too far into the deep end too early (matters for some types of classes, like math or physics, than it does others). If you take a conservative speech approach to class selection, diligently do all of the reading and homework you are assigned (do not use AI or look up homework questions online, actually do them yourself), and visit your professors during office hours for advice on academic things you are finding difficult you should be able to get a 3.9 GPA at any school in any discipline.

Sometimes by graduate school the material is difficult enough that not having a good enough brain can become a major burden. Sometimes people love math but have to become lawyers. But there are a lot of lawyers with an undergrad math degree. And not everyone can hack it in law, maybe they are better suited to education or some kind of public administration or tech or whatever. But for undergrad everyone can hack it if they have an adult work ethic and are proactive about seeking help when they need it.

If you drink more than one cup a day it can stop having an effect on you at all. I do one cup in the morning mostly because it makes me fire out a shit before I have to leave my bidet having house but can feel the coffee. In college I was drinking it so often that I would very often have one to try to help me push though some reading at night and I would fall asleep on the desk with the empty mug still warm next to my head. I don't know what the mechanism is for that level of caffeine resistance but I expect a lot of the population has it.
>>
>>25618155
That's the thing, I have an awful work ethic. I genuinely would need years of therapy to be useful enough to go to college. I've lived in my car on and off partially by choice because I think my welding job is worse than homelessness. But maybe academic things are easier.

I'm in class with a lot of intellectually disabled people. Community college creative writing is where their parents send them as a last ditch effort to prove their kid is capable, but they never really are. Reading their shit is like pulling teeth. But at the same time I realize I'm the same kind of person as them. I simply couldn't function from highschool onwards.

Also I showed a friend with a master's degree an essay I wrote once and she got so fucking mad at how bad it was she accused me of being the reason anti-intellectualism exists. So. That might've traumatized me.

Anyone who has worked an adult job for a couple years has a big advantage vs most of the 18 year olds in their introductory classes. Especially today. Even a lot of students who have only As and Bs coming into freshman year of college now expect: Infinite retake options for a test, their teacher to track and ensure they are doing their homework, infinite time to do that homework / redo it / have it graded again for full credit, extra time to take their tests if they feel sad about it, that if they express they are having a hard time that is enough to raise their grade without any change in performance.

It's ok to come into your intro classes with a bad ability to write, not being used to reading difficult texts, not knowing how to research and meaningfully assemble that info. It's not ideal and it says something about the the education you got prior to university, but unless you're going to a top flight uni in your country (I'm guessing you're Canadian so like literally McGill) the intro classes are constructed to fix these issues and onboard lower level students (as well as to hopefully offer something worthwhile to strong students, however in practice when you get a valedictorian type student at a lower level uni they just talk to their advisor and to the professor for the 201 level class and skip the 101 level classes that they actually don't need).

What I'm saying is you can go to university and do fine. There's like a 5% chance you're still too stupid, as an adult with a real job and actual interest in succeeding in a university, that you're still too stupid to make it. You're making legibile posts with paragraphs, actually, so that chance is more like 2.5% or something.
>>
just took a shit

>>
>>25618171
Do you actually want to write? If your professor went out of his way to encourage you like that, I bet he would be willing to help you seriously develop whatever talent you have. Just put aside all your thoughts about how shitty you and your classmates are and go for it. I missed so many opportunities like that when I was in high school and college, I could have become a serious woodworker or writer, but I always backed out because I had determined that I was just a pot-smoking videogame nothing
>>
>>25618194
Damn this made me feel a twinge of hope. I'm not Canadian, but that's really funny you think that. Do Canadians live in their cars a lot or something?

Right now I'm just focusing on being a functioning human being. The work ethic issue is probably more of a severe depression issue. If I can save myself I might try to do something better with my life. I'd like a master's degree. Being a professor sounds fun. I won't forget my retard friends...

A lot of people who think they're good at academic writing are actually incarnations of the god of Midwittery. They basically were handed a boilerplate way to do it and think anyone who hasn't received those instructions yet is beneath them. I was creative writing focused for my first degree and got a lot of pushback in my lit crit type classes for my academic writing because I was constantly trying to innovate around what I knew was expected of me. Eventually I decided to not waste so much effort on trying to make my essays into rewarding reads and to just give what was expected and overnight I was suddenly an academic writing genius as far as my professors were concerned. Maybe my academic articles were actually really bad and I needed to be reigned in and that was the lesson, but the feedback I got wasn't along those lines, it was just that my writing was bad. I expected guidance in improving what I was trying to do, more like I got in creative writing workshops, but what I was told was "don't try" and once I didn't try my academic readers were a lot more comfortable.

So I figured out how to do academic writing that was well received, but never really figured out how to do academic writing that was the kind I liked to read. And I don't really value academic / critical writing enough to dig back in and figure it out. Maybe some day, but I'm fairly old now and have a non-academic job to survive on so it's unlikely I'll ever have that much spare time to throw away on secondary projects of that sort again.
>>

>A lot of people who think they're good at academic writing are actually incarnations of the god of Midwittery. They basically were handed a boilerplate way to do it and think anyone who hasn't received those instructions yet is beneath them.

YEAH. I agree there was a lot wrong with that essay but her big gripe was that I was writing about a comedy film and I had inserted jokes in the essay instead of keeping it textbook and formulaic. That really pissed me off honestly. It seemed like such a given that I'd lighten the tone and goof off a little when the literal topic in question was comedy.

If you want to be a professor in 2026 you need a PhD.

It's also really important to not be a white male. I'm a left leaning person but I have more than a small amount of direct experience with how hiring works for tenure tracked professor work (you don't want to be hopping from school to school every two years your whole life making dogshit money, have to seek a tenure track position) and being white and male is such a huge handicap that its just a matter of practicality to strongly consider non academic work if you are. It's already very competitive, any disadvantage can become too much.

Over and over again everyone on the hiring committee puts in their recommendation for the most qualified and experienced guy who has a cool sample lesson and some pretty good publications and then the department head goes and talks to admin and comes back with a big smile saying "Wow team we're going to be so fortunate to welcome J'ayquona Shaniquell Jones to our department next semester! She is going to be a big plus for our students of color, I hope you're all excited about helping her aboard."

At the risk of being the most vain poster on the board, I'm actually an incredibly talented and interesting but also fairly solipsistic and somehow cut off from the desire to participate in any form of large crowd or audience, even online. Perhaps it's childish but I don't really trust the public's ability to be a friend or someone you would want to have around (not that I don't have people I'm perfectly close to in my own life). I was thinking of developing a very surrealist anonymous identity that would directly tie into the surrealist expression intended in my work. I don't know, it's not so much that I hate people or actively am averse to them, it's that I kind of don't have that major source of motivation that belongs there, that I imagine drives most people who are, you know, expressive figures. I'm not extroverted like that, except when I am by accident
In a lot of ways I'm simply scared to a level of disinterest, of getting out there

If you open the Pandora's Box of unspeakable barbarity with dispassionate speeches about the higher's natural pre-eminence over the lower in nature you cannot go back to believing in morality and mercy once the wind turns. As it stands I think the arrangement they got was fair. The west of Germany is treated with as much civilization as possible, and the East is left to the East. Germany's multitude of Voivoides and anachronistic hangers on got a much rougher deal.

Well its a matter of marketing and money, as always. Israel is not doing so well publically right now though!
Hey is Netanyahu about to, uh, lose this re-election as the Chief General of the IDF publicly explains he just denied a direct order from Netanyahu to start a major battle with Iran in order to win support for his re-election?

oh yea? WELL I HAD a dream where I was traveling in a car with a bunch of strangers, and one woman next to me was like "My legs dont feel too good", and so I gave them a quick check. I noticed they were awfully lighter than expected. So we unrolled her clothes to see how the skin was faring. Turns out she had flesh eating bacteria that had already half consumed her feet, her toes being completely eroded away.

Yeah, look it up, so Israel is having its big PM election soon and Netanyahu told his chief of staff for the IDF to start a big fight with Iran specifically before the election. And that chief of staff went public with that explaining he denied the order because it would’ve been absolutely horrible for Israel at the time and there was no strategic value, and that he suspects Netanyahu ordered it to drum up support for the election. So Netanyahu is facing a massive scandal and kind of a whistleblowing from his top military executive going into this election. I’m not sure where his legal status is right now, but I imagine if he doesn’t win the election he will be in jail, which will be really funny.

A lot of the time what people think are fruit flies are what's known as fungus gnats. Fungus gnats feed in larval form on fungus that grows in the pots of house plants. They will tell you online that they come from over watering but even if you are careful not to if you have fungus gnats in your potting soil they are difficult to get rid of. If you look on the top of your house plants you can see the larva crawling around usually, they are tiny white dots so you have to look closely for a while.

To kill them you have to buy a bacterial agent (bacillus thuringiensis israelensis, usually abbreviated to BTI) and apply it in the water you use to water the plant about once a week. I had to apply it at triple the suggested concentration before I got results. Some states also restrict it to commercial growers only.

Fungus gnats are a constant issue in greenhouses and one they're in your house they'll spread to all your potted plants pretty quickly.
>>
>>25619198
Interesting, thanks.
>>
>>25619200
I have some very bad sentences in there. The larva slowly march around on top of the soil, not on top of the plants. They live in the first couple inches so if you have a lot of them people will sometimes throw that soil out and replace with fresh and then start with BTI because you won't be able to get the soil out of the root ball very well.
>>
>>25619222
Well, we have hella houseplants around the house, both inside and out, and I can't exactly tell the homeowners to just throw all the soil out. Guess I'll just have to learn to live with it and keep food out of my room.

As planned, just took my once-a-week shit on day 7. Such relief. Beyond that, it makes me happy knowing I don't gotta worry about it for another 7-8 days. It's crazy how much comes out of me, I have to flush several times to not only make sure it doesn't clog, but to make sure it doesn't overflow the bowl lol, there's legitimately enough in total to do that. The first piece that comes out is generally over a foot long! I should take pictures. Probably win me a world record or get on the news.

It's baffling how much easier it is to destroy something than it is to create and maintain. You have an aristocratic family that's been protecting its bloodline and genes for generations and generations, centuries and centuries, and all it takes is one set of kids, one daughter or one son or both, to go, "this good genes stuff is stupid, I'll sleep with and have kids with whoever I want, especially if it makes my parents unhappy" and poof, just like that, it's over. To recover from this one act, it'd take several generations of perfect breeding to purge out the inferior stuff.

If you can convince them they have fungus gnats and tell them how to treat them they probably will -- usually plant owners just assume they are hard to get rid of fruit flies like you did. Trying to categorize a personality through handwriting is pseudoscience right?

I don’t trust modern movies. A while ago they jumped on this bandwagon of making characters that always make you feel sorry for them, and keep going and going. Can we get someone well rounded in life so they don’t invoke pity in viewer, or it’s too privileged to bring up?
>>
>>25619525
Graphology is pseudoscience, yes. Forensic document examination, however, which is just determining if someone wrote something by comparing to other examples of stuff they've written or authenticating signatures or letters and whatnot, is a real thing. It's not 100%, but it works and is accepted in court.

>>25619519
Was a paramedic. Long time ago now. I'd usually start with 0.5mg in the deltoid, give a little rub, maybe bag them in the ambulance for a bit if they were slow about coming around. Only felt I had to do the full amp into the vein a few times, but those guys all dealt with it pretty politely. Had one semi-regular partner that hated opiate users and she'd fucking nail em every time if it was up to her. Had a lot of projectile pukes and getting swung at in her history but she was born for conflict so whatever. Her perogative, and she was a real veteran so I'm not going to pretend to know more.

I think legalization is the obvious best way forward but that will hurt some people too. It would be nice if I personally could just get coke and MDMA and opiates and mushrooms otc though. Never had an issue with addiction myself but I'm the one that has to deal with shady drug assholes to keep old men and Jesus freaks happy on the back end.

lol damn, can't say I've ever had that happened to me (I always smoked the stuff) or been in a case where I had to do it (except once but it was borderline and we ended up calling the paramedics and they took him to the hospital and he survived -- I forget if they narcan'd him). Anyway, yeah, I imagine it's a thankless, unpleasant job. Thanks for your public service.

>I think legalization is the obvious best way forward but that will hurt some people too.
It's tricky because as much as I think someone becoming a felon just because they have some H/fent/blues on them is stupid as hell, I've also seen the other side of decriminalization here in Portland, and it ain't pretty either. So maybe cops should be able to seize it but not arrest, I don't know and charge? Or only a ticket? I don't know.
