I had a subscription to The Paris Review for a long time if that counts. The craft interviews are great.
>>25619509No, as they're too expensive for what they offer and have too colourful, smooth and slippery pages.
>>25619509Why should I read journalism that doesn’t even claim to be impartial? In the age of clanker? Paid too? With ads?
>>25619509Just the LRB.
>>25619645complete and utter retard
>>25619934I wonder what fresh perspective the marvelous genius behind this uncapitalized post can give me.
>>25619944You believe in the desirability, much less the possibility, of impartial media? Even if you did, literary magazines are only very tenuously journalism; hence you have in mind mass media (=retard). And what's more, you want essayists, already horribly underpaid, to write for free. Retard.
>>25619973I want worthwhile stuff as as return for my time and money, not lefty virtue signalling forced slop
>>25619973>You believe in the desirability, much less the possibility, of impartial mediaWrong, I don't believe in modern media made to be digested weekly or monthly, period. Why? Seems like you explained it to yourself friend.>complete and utter retard>=retard>RetardWow.. you really seem to be offended by this.. I hope you're not writing for some magazine nobody cares about.
>>25619509I read old horror and SciFi magazines
>>25619976Have you actually read any literary magazines?>>25619977Difficult to take seriously. By far and away the history of our culture has persisted on ritualised readings of, often shorter-than-book-length, texts. And what is your reason for disliking "modern" periodicals? That they ought, by their own standards, to be impartial, but are not? These are not their own standards. (Except only for mass media, which is terrible.)>why mad bro?
>>25619984>why mad bro?Why are you so aggressive in every post you type?
>>25619989Once upon a time eviscerating normies was an uncontroversial pastime of this board, nay website.
>magazinesMostly a waste of time. Maybe on the shitter.
>>25619509Harper’sThe New YorkerLondon Review of BooksI get all in print, and don’t get to all in each issue.
>>25619627Wow this fucking sucks.
>>25620041"Hey, The New Yorker is going to publish one of my poems!""Oh cool, it's not the one about wedding receptions is it?""Why?"
>>25620048More like The Jew Jerker.
I like Granta but don't subscribe at the moment, just grab a copy when it strikes me but they only publish quarterly.debated LRB/Paris review but never signed up. worried some of these magazines will be very (((bias)))
>>25620173Can read the LRB for free via incognito, but it's inexpensive, so just pay.
Magazines are a waste of time. I just ask the bot what happened at the end of the month.
>>25619532The Atlantic can be good when the libbing out is kept to a minimum.
>>25622528I saw this response, back in June, and spent a couple days reading through the recommendations. Nearly all of them are fem/fag fic slop factories. Utter trash. Anon should be ashamed of himself.
>>25619509I always laugh at what used to be magazine stands, now standing empty or half full and that's after they've removed most of them. They were already just 90% advertisements 20 years ago. The covers these days are full of CGPT generated images and presumably 'articles' as well.
>>25619509It's a torah to blogging's gospel
"Literary magazines" (sic) are products for people who want to feel "cultured" but won't put the effort of actually slogging through information-dense books or learning about the intellectual disciplines that constitute culture (history, philosophy, arts...). Classic market trick, they don't sell you a product, they sell you social signifiers. The content of a magazine might as well be the word "nigger" repeated every page
>>25624373"History, philosophy, arts" books are products for people who want to feel "intelligent" but won't put the effort of actually slogging through a variety of authors or learning about the literary disciplines that constitute culture (short stories, poetry, flash fiction...). Classic market trick, they don't sell you a product, they sell you social signifiers. The content of a book might as well be the word "pleb" repeated every page
>>25619509Where's the litmagfag anons? There's at least two of them who will sometimes post about literary magazines and contemporary literature
>>25619572Getting fancy in here>The Paris Review print subscription costs $59.00 per year for residents in the United States. Each yearlong subscription includes 4 quarterly issues and provides unlimited digital access to their complete 73-year archive.>The Paris Review is a prestigious quarterly literary magazine founded in Paris in 1953 by Harold L. Humes, Peter Matthiessen, and George Plimpton that revolutionized modern letters by prioritizing creative writing—like original fiction and poetry—over heavy academic criticism• Launching Careers: It served as an early and pivotal publishing venue for then-unknown or emerging writers who later became giants of literature, including Jack Kerouac, Philip Roth, Samuel Beckett, Adrienne Rich, V. S. Naipaul, Jeffrey Eugenides, and Jonathan Franzen.• The "Art of Fiction" Interviews: The magazine popularized deep, conversational, craft-focused interviews with major authors (such as Ernest Hemingway, E.M. Forster, and Saul Bellow), turning the writer's interview into an art form itself.• Expatriate & Cultural Bridge: Founded by young American expatriates in postwar Paris, it eventually moved its base to New York City in the 1970s while retaining its global influence on contemporary writing
>>25627827>The Paris Review print subscription costs $59.00 per yearthat's cuz each issue is like a small paperback book basically so 20 bucks each tho that's no discount over retail

the lamp magazine is ok not the one by some 4chan kid but the one by some catholic outfit in the midwest has some good writers sometimes
Does anyone else read old TIME magazines? They're kind of boring. I only read the politics or world news that interest me then I go straight to the crimes section.
>>25627915I'm a younger millennial and even back before all of the attention-grabbing things, there were no boys reading. I barely read at all, but the small amount I did read probably put me in the top 0.1% of boys in my age group. It is true that men are largely not concerned with reading or writing unless it's something they can use to larp about rome, evola, hitler or some other gay shit.
>>25628149>lit board>i barely read/board
>>25628161Past tense, anon.
>>25628165oh sorry, do you not read at all now then?
>>25628171I've read for around 4 hours in the past week. I doubt you read considering you don't understand verb tenses. And yes, the verb tense is clear in that sentence I wrote. You have a poor reading comprehension from your lack of reading so you can not distinguish between read and read even with the adequate context included.
>>25628259I am very proud of you for composing those sentences, anon. Keep it up!
>>25619509magazines are too expensive now to buy in single issues. I bought two national geographic special editions about cats last year and they were $13.99 each.
>mentally retarded faggot with poor reading comprehension naturally misreads a sentence and is now playing it off like a troll to save his fragile ego
>>25628302Here you are, my friend, a neutral adjudicator.
>>25628141You can just do real crimes anon
>>25627915>women and gays are the only people who read or write anymoreYou don't read or write?
>>25619509He looks short
It's been a long while since I read a mag. They cost as much as a paperback book, have worse content then older mags, and are filled to the brim with ads. It just isn't worth my time or money compared to all the alternatives.
