Im thinking about reading Moby Dick next. Is it really that good? Or is it too boring?
>>25621402The CIA used Moby Dick to bore Osama Bin Laden to death. It was actually written in 1999. Look it up.
there's nothing else like it. If that's appealing to you, try it out. Otherwise you probably won't enjoy it.
>>25621410>>25621429Is it a book that you would describe as "cool"?
>>25621402one of my favorite books
>>25621410Very, very true.
It's long and there's a lot of stuff in there you wouldn't expect but it's a good book.
>hear all this time that Moby-Dick is "the white whale">actually read the book>he's not even all the way whiteI feel cheated.
>>25621402Are you comfortable sharing a bed with another male. If not find something else.
>>25621410So if Osama Bin Laden finds a book boring does that mean it's a bad book? What if Osama Bin Laden was just a retard who didn't know how to read?I haven't read Moby Dick but based on the reputation I assume it is good.
Moby Dick is good because of the way it's written. The story is not that impressive, but how the words are read (in English, if you are ESL, don't bother with translations; they are garbage) is fascinating and makes you wish you could speak like that.
>>25621402I think it is one of the greatest works of literature of all time
>>25621603you understand that this was absolutely normal at the time, right?Have you seen old houses? You were lucky if you had 2 bedrooms for a family of 8. This thing where everyone gets his own bed is something that only became normal after WWII.
>>25621680I'm gay - so seems absolutely normal to me.
>>25621595One drop rule.
>>25621402It only appeals to the American or Americanised mind; civilised people find it boring and pedestrian.
>mfw "tell him to paint me a sign, with—‘no suicides permitted here, and no smoking in the parlor'"
>>25621402It's great, but you'll learn more about whales and 19th century whaling than you could ever conceivably need to, for any reason.
Get a boating license first.
>>25621402The beginning is boring, but later catches up steam, or sail. I love books written by sea people.Probably the work that established the claustrophobic genre of locked up people led by a madman, it teaches you a worthy lesson.
>>25621402It's back and forth. Some chapters are really exciting, some chapters feel like filler.
